From floods to droughts – and everything in between – North Queensland’s water story is one of extremes. This was the focus at the Australian Water Association North Queensland Conference held this week in Cairns, where resilience and innovation were front and centre. Leading thinkers and presenters explored how the water industry, local communities, and infrastructure providers can thrive in extremes. Aurecon’s Sarah Costello spoke about internal carbon pricing to deliver better long term financial and climate outcomes for utilities. Ben Dunn and Jordie Cooper explored the system wide approach to First Nations value mapping in New South Wales. Arden Haar shared why the role of infrastructure players is essential in disaster management. We can’t get to where we need to go without leadership. And everyone has a role to play. How can we collaborate to better ride the water rollercoaster? #SustainableWater #Resilience

The future of water resilience will be written together, says Ryan Signor. He invited the audience to think about 𝘩𝘰𝘸 we innovate at the recent Australian Water Association WA breakfast exploring bold ideas for sustainable water management. Dr Biji KURUP from Murdoch University shared that change requires being the right person, in the right place, at the right time. A panel featuring Shane Oldham, Dr Stacey Hamilton CF, Dr Chris Oughton and Rohan Prince, and moderated by Helen McGettigan, discussed how digital solutions and circular economy thinking are transforming the water industry. Innovation can happen in multiple forms, from step change to incremental change. What can we do to be changemakers? #SustainableWater #Innovation

Thinking both fast and slow will be key to delivering on New Zealand’s infrastructure priorities: accelerating the way we deliver projects now, while developing and executing on a coherent and actionable long-term vision. In today’s NZ Herald our Chief Executive for New Zealand Tracey Ryan explains how her native Ireland is aligning infrastructure investment with national vision. And our Managing Principal for Advisory in Asia Dr. Alex Katsanos shares some lessons from Hong Kong's productivity enhancement efforts in the construction sector. #Infrastructure #Construction

Aurecon, as part of an alliance with Fulton Hogan, HEB Construction and WSP, has signed a construction contract with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi to deliver the northern section of the new Ōtaki to north of Levin Road of National Significance. https://bit.ly/3UbnzaM A second alliance of Downer, McConnell Dowell, Beca and Tonkin + Taylor is focused on the southern section south of the Ohau River. The 24km Ōtaki to north of Levin project is one of the final stages of the Wellington Northern Corridor and represents a significant investment in regional connectivity. Once completed, it will greatly improve safety, reliability, and journey times for those moving around or through the Horowhenua District and lower North Island. It will also unlock new opportunities for housing and urban development. Construction is set to get underway this spring, with the new road expected to be open to traffic before the end of 2029. North Alliance Project Director Tim Watterson said the signing was an exciting milestone for the community and project team. “It has taken considerable effort and support from many people over many years to get to this point. We are looking forward to working with NZTA, iwi partners, and the local community to deliver this much needed stretch of new four-lane highway.” #Transport #BringingIdeasToLife
