  • Though we can access almost everything online nowadays, there are still moments that remind us how important it is to truly “be there.” The #Nexus2025 delegation’s visit to Nanjing 19-20 September was full of such memorable moments: 🌟 To be in Pukou Hi-Tech Zone — meeting the founding partner of #Nexus program, attending the 2025 Melbourne–Nanjing #Nexus Innovation Summit, celebrating our eight #Nexus2025 competition winners as they officially received their awards, and witnessing four #Nexus alumni sign MOUs with Pukou Hi-Tech Zone. 🌟 To be in JITRI - Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute — our new partner and one of the organisers of #Nexus2025, where we were inspired by what Lord Mayor of Melbourne Nick Reece described as “one of the best presentations on innovation” by Dr Chen Ning, Vice President of JITRI, as well as JITRI's approaches of transferring researches into real impacts. 🌟 To be in Nanjing, Melbourne’s partnership city — walking its streets, tasting its food, talking with its people, experiencing its innovation spirit, and learning its rich culture. After this trip, Nanjing is no longer just a distant name in our minds, but a tangible and vivid city for the #Nexus delegation. Most importantly, to be there meant that the #Nexus2025 delegation travelled across borders to come together in Nanjing — sharing precious moments, inspirations, laughter, and joy. The connections built during this trip are invaluable and will no doubt spark new opportunities from here 🌟 👏 A big cheer for all our delegation members: Dr. Anushi (Kulasiri) Rajapaksa Liya M. Last night I hosted a Chinese cultural immersion event and it was a wild success! 🙌 For some time now I've been pondering "how do you teach culture?" and "why is it so important to do so?!" Which is what led to the launch of my Global Immersion series As someone that's recently travelled to China and is doing more and more work in the bilateral space, the Middle Kingdom felt like a logical place to start 🇨🇳 A huge thanks to the packed room at Tank Stream Labs that joined us for: ⭐ Insights from a panel of incredible China-Australia relationship experts Shuyun Zhang, Eddie Zhao, Sarah Gosper PhD ⭐ A brief from our event partners ACASE, who also let us do a live draw for the pitch order for their upcoming Nexus showcase (link in the comments to join) ⭐ A riotous demonstration of how to conduct yourself at a Chinese dinner function with Tick J. & a bottle of Chinese liquor 🍶 I said last night in my opening address That it's in moments like this, where we truly open ourselves up to learning about other ways of working and living, that we truly grow as humans And for those in the room, last night truly felt like a special moment of growth! Thanks to all that played a part in that Look out for our next event in this series on incredible India 🇮🇳 coming soon!

China Diaries: Respect, Ritual, and the Medtech Mindset 🇨🇳 Part 2 of 3 Last night’s China Immersion Series—thoughtfully led by Dickie Currer and ACASE, —prompted me to revisit my time in Shanghai earlier this year. What lingered most was the understated choreography of connection that defines how business unfolds in China and Australia. The quiet gestures, layered meanings, and unspoken trust—it’s a rhythm you feel before you understand it. 🇦🇺 Thank you @henry Tick J. Shuyun Zhang Eddie Zhao Sarah Gasper for sharing such honest reflections. I only wish I’d heard this sooner. Here’s a glimpse into what I’ve learned from the field. Before deals are discussed, relationships are built. And that begins long before the first handshake. 🪑 It starts with where you’re seated at the table—there’s meaning in every placement. 🧘🏽 It flows through conversation —deliberate, unhurried, and rooted in shared context. Friendship first. 🫖 And it’s sealed over tea (moving quickly to stronger beverages) - but each moment builds trust, and the smallest gestures of respect. At one dinner, I was seated to the left of the host—a subtle but significant cue that I was the VIP. I didn't realise this at the time. That humbling moment stayed with me. 🙏 Because in China, business isn’t transactional—it’s relational, intentional, and built with the long view in mind. 🌏 And Medtech is no exception. Having immersed myself in Shanghai’s Medtech pulse, one thing is clear: 1 to 100 - when it comes to scale, speed, and execution, China doesn’t follow—it leads 🚀 The very hard 0 to 1 - There are so many shared values across the Australian ecosystem which makes it more wonderful when new connections are built. 🇦🇺 From Class III device manufacturing 🏭 to end-to-end regulatory readiness 📋, every facility we visited set a global bar for precision and pace. I left each meeting inspired by the possibility of world-class innovation rooted in deep cultural awareness. Once more, to our extraordinary mentors and sponsors on the ground 🙏—thank you for your generosity and insight. And to the brilliant Misti team (Paul Carboon MAICD, Dr. Bangyan Xu) and our supporters Mr. Linkui. Mr. Henry, Mr. Yang, Mr. Wang and others), thank you for bringing humility and wisdom to every conversation 🤝. Part 3 is coming soon: how these insights shape Misti’s global roadmap, and how we’re weaving innovation across borders ✨ #MistiInChina #MedtechInContext #RespectMatters #GlobalInnovation #ChinaBusiness #PartnershipsWithPurpose #LeadershipAbroad
