About us
Disaster Relief Australia unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. We recruit, train, equip, organise and deploy veterans to aid in disaster response operations around the world. This is our way of bridging the gap between returning veterans and their home communities. We demonstrate - to society and individual veterans alike - that veterans are powerful resources with skills to be harnessed.

It's great to see our partners at NAB getting hands-on with our Big Map exercise - helping communities better prepare for natural disasters. Thank you NAB for your ongoing partnership and commitment to strengthening community resilience.
How disaster ready are you? I was lucky enough to take part in a powerful preparedness exercise that challenged how ready I really am. From sorting out a grab-and-go bag to thinking about my evacuation plan if roads were cut and phone reception was down. These are the tough questions we need to answer before a natural disaster hits. Grateful for the insights from the experts at Disaster Relief Australia and a timely reminder to prepare yourself, your family and your home. What are your tips when it comes to getting ready ahead of natural disaster season?

This week, NAB colleagues like Jodie Stojanovski participated in a Big Map exercise with Disaster Relief Australia, an interactive initiative to help communities prepare for natural disasters. Using large aerial maps, participants identified risks and developed community-led plans to enhance safety and recovery. This effort is part of our commitment to helping customers withstand and recover from natural disasters. The NAB Foundation has more than quadrupled its support for our major partner, Disaster Relief Australia, to strengthen corporate and community volunteering. Led by Disaster Relief Australia, the NAB Foundation Recovery Crew consists of everyday Australians dedicated to helping communities recover from and prepare for disasters. As disasters become more frequent and intense, we are proud to support initiatives that unite people and create practical, local solutions. 👉 Join the NAB Foundation Recovery Crew to help communities prepare and recover: https://lnkd.in/g7be5Gr8

Today is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. This year’s theme is: Fund Resilience, Not Disasters. At Disaster Relief Australia, we stand with communities on both sides of a disaster. Preparing communities before the worst happens is just as important to us as helping them recover afterwards. While disasters can’t always be prevented, we know that community-led preparedness plays a vital role in reducing risk and lessening the impact of severe weather events. In fact, for every $1 invested in community preparedness, an estimated $9.60 is saved in recovery costs.* Through our ARISE Framework, we work alongside communities to ensure they are aware, prepared, connected, empowered, and strong when faced with the challenges of disaster. Using tools such as our Big Map, we’re helping regions, towns, and townships across Australia collaborate and communicate across governments, organisations, and communities — so when disaster strikes, they can respond together. The algal bloom in South Australia has hit our marine life hard, and we know it’s not over yet. While we work hard on solutions to restore the health of our waters, we’re joining the Malinauskas Government to continue funding the clean up of local beaches. Thanks to the volunteers from Disaster Relief Australia who are doing terrific work to ensure South Australians can continue using local beaches while the algal bloom persists.

At Disaster Relief Australia, enabling communities and corporates to assist in disaster recovery is integral to our work. Last month, our volunteers joined NAB Foundation Recovery Crew and community partners at Ferny Creek Recreation Reserve to do just that. More than 48 corporate volunteers from NAB worked alongside Disaster Relief Australia's Victorian Disaster Relief and Recovery Team, Rescue Logs, Mountain Men, the Philanthropic Collective, and the Ferny Creek Recreation Reserve Committee of Management to chop trees and create firewood to support families in need. This effort not only reduced risks at the Reserve but also strengthened community resilience before bushfire season. ▶️ Watch our recap video to see our volunteers in action. #DisasterReliefAustralia #CorporateVolunteering #CommunityResilience

At Disaster Relief Australia it is our mission to serve communities when it matters most. Last year, we rolled up our sleeves to donate in the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Defence Blood Drive and this year we are rolling them back up. Even when not in the field, our staff and volunteers' commitment to community continues. As a veteran-led organisation, our decision to align with the Defence Blood Drive was a natural step and with one in three Australians needing blood during their lifetime, we can think of no better reason to step up in support. Disaster Relief Australia CEO Dave Smith shares why blood donations are so important. #lifebloodau #blooddonation #Disasterreliefaustralia
