The export of natural gas from Queensland started in 2015, but unlike the Western Australian system – where gas is also reserved for the local economy – Queensland gas is produced for export, and the East Coast economy purchases it at export-linked prices. That means much higher prices than Australian industry is used to, and the CEO of BlueScope has questioned this system and stated that without a domestic reserve like WA’s, or a price-cap on local gas sales, Australian manufacturers will go out of business. There has to be a way that we create certainty for resources investment while not penalising Australian manufacturers. https://lnkd.in/gY7qf6dB

Back from the WA Mining Conference & Exhibition 2025 in Perth! Last week our CEO, Julie Harrison GAICD CME (HBS) and Technical Manager, Dr Matt Peterson had the opportunity to attend one of the most informative events in the mining calendar – the WA Mining Conference & Exhibition in Perth. For us as a grease manufacturing company, this event wasn’t just about networking – it was about aligning with the future of mining. Here’s what made it worthwhile: 🤝 Stronger partnerships - We connected with mining operators, suppliers and decision-makers from across Western Australia’s mining sector opening doors to new collaboration. 🔎 Industry Insight – We had the opportunity to hear presentations from leading authorities - Fortescue, Tesla, Makinex and Rio Tinto and other companies on advanced technology, innovative solutions, decarbonisation and sustainability in the mining sector. 💡 Innovation Spotlight – Discovered the latest in mining automation, ESG practices, and sustainable mining – and how our products can support these transitions. Harrison Manufacturing Company are excited to continue supporting the mining sector with reliable and innovative high-performance grease and lubricant solutions that keep operations running smoothly – even under extreme conditions. In male-dominated sectors of the economy, such as manufacturing, the gender skew can easily become a cultural bias and with it comes consequences that are not helpful to the Australian economy. For instance, according to Jobs and Skills Australia, occupations with highly gender-skewed workforces are significantly more likely to experience skills shortages. Gender plays a role across the economy, with only a third of Australia’s businesses being owned by women. The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has enacted the Future Maker program which seeks to shift more women into business ownership and leadership, starting at the practical level. If we can get more women to own and lead businesses, what economic and social benefits could we unleash? https://lnkd.in/eqn643ef

The paradox of leadership seems to be that upon reaching a senior position it becomes harder to hear all the great ideas and concerns coming from your ‘greatest asset’. The people doing the day-to-day work of an organisation know where the problems and opportunities lie, but finding a way to hear about it is the challenge for leaders. One way is for leaders to promote ‘small talk’ with employees. This shouldn't be left to chance – productive informal chats with individuals can be scheduled and planned, and have time put aside to enjoy a proper conversation. Some of the best ideas are being thrown around in the staff lunchroom – it’s the leader’s job to hear them, and who knows, it could lead to the next Big Idea. Read our CEO Julie Harrison GAICD CME (HBS) thoughts below. https://lnkd.in/gsV8tspa

🎉 Celebrating 🔟 Years of Engineering Talent in Grease Manufacturing! This month marks a major milestone for one of our behind-the-scenes quiet heroes — Our Engineering and Maintenance Manager, Muir Aitken who has spent 10 years transforming the backbone of our grease manufacturing plant. Over the course of 10 years, Muir has kept production running, the upgrades flowing, and future expansion top of mind — all while ensuring the grease keeps moving! Here’s a look at just 🔟 of the major capital projects from his project legacy (so far 😉): ❄️ SOK Cooling Tower (2016) The challenge: End-of-life cooling tower with unclear future thermal needs. The outcome: A cooling tower supporting both existing and future plant expansions. 🥄 GP1, GP8 & GP3 Vessels (2017–2019) The challenge: Replace 3 main grease vessels after 20+ years of service. The outcome: Brand new vessels ready to keep grease flowing for decades. ⚡ Main Switch Room/Switch Gear upgrade (2022) The challenge: Upgrade critical site-wide electrical switch gear with smart metering and advanced diagnostic tools without stopping production. The outcome: A smart, future-ready main control cabinet with zero unplanned downtime. 🔌 Tank Farm Electrical Upgrade (2022) The challenge: Replace all electricals across the tank farm without interrupting production. The outcome: A modern distribution board and infrastructure allowing plant growth. 🏭 Grease Control Panel (2023) The challenge: Replace an ancient distribution board without electrical drawings and without interruptions to production. The outcome: A brand-new distribution board for the plant with room to grow and no unplanned outage. 💧 Grease Cooling Tower (2023) The challenge: Replace the cooling tower servicing the main grease plant without interrupting production. The outcome: A new tower with double the capacity in the same footprint facilitating a reduction in cycle times. 🔥 Heated Container Ovens (2023) The challenge: Provide bulk heated storage to meet customer delivery needs. The outcome: An increase to heated storage by more than 20 spaces allowing isotainer on-time deliveries for our customers. 🏭 SOK3 Upgrade (2024) The challenge: Our largest project yet. Modernise the heart of the sulfurised oil plant without stopping production. The outcome: A modern plant that more than doubled production capacity, removed manual handling and reduced cycle time by roughly one third, all while maintaining continuous supply of product. 💪 From ancient grease control panels with no drawings to the largest plant upgrade in recent memory, Muir has delivered every project with the same goal: keep production moving today and make it easier tomorrow. Here’s to 🔟 years of grease, grit and getting it done — thank you for being the driving force behind our plant’s progress! #EngineeringProjects #10YearsOfExcellence #GreaseManufacturing #PlantUpgrades #EngineeringThatDelivers #ThankYou

The recently announced partnership between the National Reconstruction Fund (NRF), Bradfield Development Authority and Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF), looks like a step in the right direction for the New South Wales and Federal governments, because it links a new city (Bradfield at Western Sydney Aerotropolis) with its AMRF, and adds the funding available through the NRF. There’s no financial details yet, but it’s encouraging that governments see advanced manufacturing as part of Australia’s future. What governments must avoid is adding funding to the manufacturing sector while ignoring structural problems, which might also be solvable by governments. https://lnkd.in/gdBueqfm
