🌶️ Curry Cook-Off Makes for the UlTIMate Team Lunch! 🌶️ Recently, some of Transwa’s finest curry cooks went head-to-head in the UlTIMate Rematch Curry Cook-Off (named after Tim Woolerson himself, General Manager of Transwa!). With spices flying and aromas filling the room, the competition was fierce. Our judges, acting MD Elwyn Gearon and executive support officer Kate Granja Carvalho had the tough job of tasting each dish, which included: • Zareen Nusrat with Bangladeshi Chicken Roast • Tim Woolerson with Lamb Rogan Josh • Sam Hesford with Sam’s Super Aussie Curry feat. Kangaroo • Sam Hesford with Dahl Tarka • Francis Jijo with Madras Chicken Chukka • Francis Jijo with Andhra Goat Curry After plenty of deliberation (and second helpings!), Zareen was crowned champ, scoring six months of bragging rights and a special certificate. UlTIMately, a delicious team lunch was enjoyed by all!

🚂 Restoring a Piece of WA's Rail History Earlier this year, Rail Heritage WA was engaged by the Public Transport Authority to restore WAGR steam locomotive S 542 “Bakewell”, on display at the Public Transport Centre in East Perth. First placed on public display by Westrail in 1976, S 542 has remained a local icon for nearly 50 years. Its ownership was transferred to Rail Heritage WA in 1997, with the clear intention that it would stay on display at East Perth, a commitment we’re proud to continue honouring. Over eight weeks, our volunteers undertook extensive conservation work: ✅ Full surface preparation and repainting ✅ Removal of deteriorated fibreglass and fake coal ✅ Replacement of the corroded headlight with a preserved original unit This was more than just a repaint, it was a commitment to preserving WA’s rich rail heritage, supported by the PTA and made possible by the dedication of our volunteers and project partners. Thank you to everyone involved, especially the team at Network & Infrastructure and our passionate volunteer crew. #RailHeritage #PublicTransport #WAHistory #SteamLocomotive #CommunityHeritage

From classrooms to carriages, Sam Ball’s journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to pursue purpose in a new uniform. After 12 years in early childhood education, Sam felt her passion fading. What followed was a courageous career pivot into the world of public transport as a transit officer with the Public Transport Authority Now an acting transit supervisor, Sam brings patience, empathy, and resilience from her former career into a role where no two days are the same and where she still finds ways to connect with young people through programs like Right Track. #CareerChange #PublicTransport #PeopleOfPTA #Leadership #PurposeDrivenWork

Last month, our Environment Services Branch (ESB) took part in a community tree planting event at the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary in Bayswater. Once a landfill site, the sanctuary is now a thriving wetland that plays a vital role in local ecological restoration. Joined by their families, ESB staff planted more than 200 native shrubs and grasses. The initiative aligned with the spirit of National Tree Day, Australia’s largest tree-planting and nature care event. Events like this not only help the planet, but also foster a sense of connection, both with nature and with each other. We applaud the ESB team for their ongoing commitment to nature and the environment. #Sustainability #NationalTreeDay #CommunityImpact #Teamwork

🌟 Celebrating Excellence at the PTA – Arrows Awards 2025 🌟 We recently came together to celebrate our annual Arrows Awards, a special time to recognise and reward exceptional work, as well as the outstanding individuals across the Public Transport Authority. We are proud to announce the winner of the prestigious Gold Arrow, the PTA’s highest honour for outstanding service or achievement, to Lauren Bowden. Lauren is our Principal Injury Management Consultant within the People and Organisation Development (POD) division and her impact on the team and colleagues she supports and has been exceptional. Her team describes her as an accomplished professional who approaches her role with unwavering integrity and commitment. She is recognised as a big-picture thinker with a remarkable ability to genuinely connect with others, and they all agree that she is truly deserving of this recognition. Lauren shared, “I’m truly honoured and humbled to receive this award. Supporting our people through the challenges of injury and recovery is the most rewarding and meaningful part of my role, so to be recognised for work I genuinely care about means a lot. While I usually shy away from the spotlight, I’m proud to be acknowledged in such a meaningful way. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey so far. I feel very fortunate to work alongside such passionate and dedicated people here at the PTA.” Congratulations to Lauren and her fellow Arrows recipients and a special thanks to the Customer Strategy and Communications team for putting together a wonderful evening. #PublicTransportAuthority #Recognition #Leadership #EmployeeAwards #WorkplaceCulture

💡 Hot take from a Gen Z: Success isn’t just about tech skills anymore; it’s the human skills that really move the needle. Theo Vander Heyden's journey at the Public Transport Authority, perfectly illustrates this. Starting as a Student Rail Engineer through PTA’s award-winning Vacation Program in 2020, Theo grew through a structured graduate program that combined technical training with mentorship focused on essential interpersonal skills. This blend set Theo up to thrive in a people-centred role, proving that “soft skills” are anything but soft. Check out the article to see why building human skills matters now more than ever. What human skills do you think are game changers in your career? We'd hear your thoughts in the comments! #PublicTransportAuthority #GraduateRoles #GraduateProgram #Mentorship #NextGenLeaders #RailwayCareers https://lnkd.in/dcRF3z38
