Personal Branding for Military & Police Veterans into Cybersecurity | Training Tomorrow’s Cyber Leaders in Branding, Influence & Career Success | Helping Businesses Solve Cyber Talent Gaps | CSO & Cybersecurity Professor

Proud. Grateful. Inspired. There’s something powerful about watching a group of previously dispersed military and police veterans who have lost connection come together... Not just to learn, but to grow, support one another, and redefine what’s possible. It is like watching a reunion, a brotherhood and sisterhood reconnect at a soul level. This week, our Solve Transition cohort hit some incredible milestones. New skills. New mindsets. New confidence. Some folks are mastering cybersecurity concepts they once thought were out of reach. Others are building their first LinkedIn profile, or preparing for interviews, or even landing their very first role in cyber. But the real win? * The mutual support. * The quiet determination. * The way every win feels like everyone's win. Whether you're just starting out or deep in the grind, remember this: * You don’t have to walk this path alone. * You’re not behind—you're building. * Progress doesn’t always feel loud—but it’s happening. To every cohort member: I see you. I’m proud of you. And I’m walking right beside you. Let’s keep showing the world what veterans really bring to the table. P.S. What’s been your biggest lightbulb moment so far in this journey? #SolveTransition #VeteransInCyber #CareerChange #CybersecurityTraining #FromServiceToCyber #MindsetMatters #NeverTooLateToStart #ProudMentor

I had the certifications and I still felt like an imposter. After service, I thought once I stacked enough cyber certs, the confidence would come. It didn’t. Even after completing high-level training, I still questioned myself in rooms full of people who seemed “more technical.” I doubted if I belonged. If I’d ever catch up. If I was just wearing a new uniform I hadn’t earned. Here’s what I’ve learned: 1. Certifications are a passport—not proof of readiness. 2. Confidence doesn’t come from paper. It comes from practice. 3. The real shift happens when you show up—imperfect but prepared to grow. If you're in transition—military, policing, or starting over in cyber—it’s easy to think you need to “earn” your place before stepping into it. Remember though: You earn it by stepping in. - By getting your hands on the problem. - By owning what you do know and being humble enough to learn the rest. - Cyber doesn’t need more perfect people. It needs committed ones. Start showing up. Confidence will catch up. #VeteranTransition #CybersecurityCareers #CareerChange #SolveTransition

In Cybersecurity... Not all mentoring programs are created equal. Some just “tick a box.” Others? They change lives. At Solve Transition, we’ve spent years building a program that actually works because it’s grounded in evidence, not ego. Backed by global frameworks (SFIA, NICE, EMCC, GROW etc.) * Designed with veterans, police, and women in cyber in mind * Powered by diagnostics, credentials, and real-world role mapping * Delivered by mentors who have been there — C-suite, Defence, Law, Cyber We don’t do fluff. That's why some of you wriggle and squirm about it... it's truth and honesty. Science and humanities. We do career-changing clarity. * From Range Day mindfulness to Industry certs. * From weekly mentoring to academic credits. * From stuck to thriving. And now? We’re scaling. If you’re a university, government agency, or a change-maker looking to lead inclusion in cyber — we should talk. Let’s build something that actually works. — Prof. Neil Curtis #Cybersecurity #MentoringMatters #Veterans #WomenInTech #SolveTransition #DigitalCareers #InclusionDoneRight

Commenting is the new currency of connection and you pathway to success in cybersecurity transition. And Jasmin Alić nailed the strategy. Let me build on it from the lens of someone mentoring veterans, career changers, and professionals stepping into new spaces—especially those who feel like they’re late to the game or unsure where to start. Here’s how I help people turn LinkedIn commenting into opportunity, reputation, and relationships: 1. Engage like a professional, not a fan. It’s easy to say “Great post!”—it’s rare to say “I experienced something similar, and here’s how it changed my thinking.” Comments that resonate are comments that reveal. Drop one insight, one question, or one metaphor. That’s how you stand out. 2. Create a mini-commenting strategy. I tell my community: “Pick your 3 lanes.” For example: Veteran Transition, Cybersecurity Careers, Mental Resilience. Every day, scan those lanes and add real signal to the noise. You’re not chasing likes—you’re demonstrating leadership. 3. Use templated frameworks—but add heart. Have a few “comment skeletons” that work for your tone. Example: * Strong opener: “This hits hard—especially for those of us who’ve walked through real transition.” * Insight: “Cybersecurity is less about tech and more about mindset. Veterans get that, but the industry often overlooks it.” * Close: “Thanks for raising this—more voices like yours, please.” 4. Think beyond the post. After your comment, hit their profile. Follow, connect, or message with context. Build relationships. Some of the best opportunities I’ve had started in a comment thread—because I added, not echoed. 5. Comment with a mission. For those of us who work in human-centred fields—veteran support, mental wellness, ethical tech—commenting isn’t just visibility. It’s advocacy. Each comment is a moment to lift someone, challenge a norm, or offer direction. Build conversations. Be generous with your voice. Stay consistent. That’s the real LinkedIn strategy—and it costs nothing but intention. If you’re in transition and want to learn how to show up digitally with purpose, I’d be glad to guide you. #Leadership #VeteranTransition #CybersecurityCareers #CommentToConnect #SolveTransition

Whether you're a veteran, emergency services, adult career changer, civilian, or service spouse — this message is for you. We’ve created a powerful new pathway into the Bachelor of Cyber Security through Solve Transition and the University of Southern Queensland, where your experience, training, or certifications are formally recognised — cutting down time, cost, and confusion. Here’s how it works: ✅ Year 1: Complete industry certifications (Fortinet, OffSec, ISC2, MCSI, ISACA) — these count as 12 months of uni credit. ✅ Year 2: If you have 5+ years of relevant work experience that counts as recognition of prior learning — that counts too. ✅ Year 3: Complete a real-world project through integrated learning, workplace placement or your current cyber role, build your cyber portfolio, and graduate with confidence. That’s a full degree, tailored to your background — not a cookie-cutter course. But here’s the game-changer: Eligible students can continue into a FREE Master's & PhD in Cybersecurity Research. No debt. No catch. Just a $145,000 opportunity — fully funded. This pathway has been designed with heart and experience — built for those who want purpose, flexibility, and a future in one of the world’s most in-demand industries. I’m hosting a free webinar soon to walk through how this works. Comment “INFO” below or message me and I’ll send you the details. Let’s build something that matters — together. As a cybersecurity education leader... I commend Benjamin Mossé for addressing the complexities of professionalisation in our industry. From a university perspective, rigid accreditation systems make it hard to keep pace with fast-changing cyber threats. Curriculum changes often take years—leaving graduates at risk of outdated knowledge. We also face a shortage of tactically skilled professionals willing to teach, as industry roles offer higher pay and more immediate relevance. AISA’s interviews with Damien Manuel and Mike Trovato highlight the same concern: without a clear definition of what professionalisation aims to solve, we risk building barriers—not bridges. AISA’s 2022 survey showed employers value attitude and aptitude above degrees or certifications. Yet formal credentialing may sideline veterans, women, neurodivergent talent, and career-changers—groups essential to cybersecurity’s diversity and resilience. Cybersecurity isn’t linear, and it doesn’t benefit from uniformity. Any move toward professionalisation must be inclusive, adaptive, and built in collaboration across industry, education, and government. It's challenging, it's complex and it's hard. In the meantime keep learning, keep moving and don't worry too much. The Industry itself will have the last say on this.
