About us
Celebrating 10 Years - TechDiversity (founded in 2015), we believe technology should reflect the rich diversity of the world it serves. That’s why we exist — to drive systemic change in Australia’s tech workforce across all industries by championing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in every layer of innovation. We're more than an awards program. We are a conduit to DEI experts, deliver DEI education to business leaders and have our finger on the pulse on the diversity make up of the Australian tech workforce through our research - TechReflects. We are a community dedicated to making inclusion not just a value, but a practice that fuels growth, innovation, and well-being. In a world where emerging technologies like AI are reshaping our lives, representation matters more than ever. We’re here to ensure that the future of tech is inclusive by design — not by accident. Join us if you believe: ✅ A diverse workforce leads to better ideas, stronger teams, and smarter tech. ✅ Inclusive practices should be embedded into hiring, design, and leadership. ✅ Everyone, regardless of background, should have access to opportunities in tech. ✅ Data and insights (like our TechReflects study) can drive real-world action. ✅ Celebrating changemakers (through our TechDiversity Awards) inspires the next wave of leaders. With the support of industry, government, education, and community, we’re building a tech workforce that reflects the society we live in — inclusive, innovative, and ready for the future. 🔗 Get involved. Powerful insights here on inclusive leadership! This article from Forbes reinforces what we have built TechDiversity Academy in association with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) . The three strategies outlined in the aritcle align perfectly with our curriculum - *Being accountable for inclusion progress * Establishing psychological safety * Adopting inclusive ways of being What resonates most: "It's never too late to adopt an inclusive leadership style." Whether you're at the unaware, aware, active, or advocate stage, there's always room to grow. The key is choosing to make that journey with intention and courage. If you want to explore these principles in depth with our Tech Diversity Academy cohort of leaders contact Jen Murray. https://lnkd.in/gYXM-tR6 #InclusiveLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #TechDiversity #LeadershipDevelopment #PsychologicalSafety

Intersectionality Matters | Gen Z’s 80% agreement suggests that they are either working in genuinely more diverse environments, have different definitions of "sufficient," or have not yet experienced the systemic barriers that create cynicism over time. ✨ Celebrating a Decade of Tech Diversity Awards! ✨ It was a fantastic opportunity attending the 10th Annual #TechDiversity Awards Gala Dinner last month, an incredible event that has been recognizing and celebrating outstanding contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in Australia’s tech sector for a decade. Huge congrats and thanks to founders Soozey Johnstone, Luli Adeyemo, Deirdre Diamante, Tracey Habron, Claire Marriott and Brett Findlay. It was inspiring to hear so many stories of resilience, innovation, perseverance, and generosity. 🎉 Microsoft Australia was a table sponsor for the evening, and I was grateful to join as Women @ Microsoft ERG Melbourne branch Lead, sharing this experience with my amazing colleagues Gary Trytell Ian Heard Erika Harris Matthew Frank Ana Maria Suarez Imran Arshad Lena Klein🌼 Deepthi Rao made it special! Thank you Gary Trytell for your support and contributions as a prestigious judge and for the opportunity Thanks Chess Francesca Salvo Tennille Wong ! It was also awesome bumping into familiar faces and beautiful friends Rupal Thakkar Mudholkar Payal Lamba who are creating an impact in this space. 🏆 The awards spanned across Government, Business, Education, Campaign of the Year, and Tech for Good, showcasing initiatives that are shaping a more inclusive future. The highlight of the evening was the “Make it Easy” app, which won both the Tech for Good award and the Tech Diversity Champion award for its innovative approach to improving accessibility and inclusivity through technology, making every day digital interactions simpler and more equitable for all users with the help of #AI. Few take aways to support the mission - ✨ Champion inclusion in key conversations and decisions. 🙌 Celebrate differences and create spaces where all voices are heard. 💫 Support initiatives like Tech Diversity that amplify innovation with inclusion in tech. "Don't put a condition on LinkedIn that you have to have residence in Australia to apply for a role. You're just cutting out a lot of the talent pool." - Gerard Holland, Intern Match The skills shortage is real. The AI talent demand is exploding. Yet we're still seeing job posts with unnecessary residency requirements that exclude incredible talent. Gerard's wisdom from our 10-year anniversary series hits differently when you consider our upcoming Tech Reflects Study Vol 2 findings: despite surface diversity progress, our tech sector still recruits from narrow talent pools. With close to 600 respondents, we're seeing systematic underrepresentation of Arabic and Vietnamese speakers and more... - communities that form significant parts of Australian society (as seen in the Australian Census) This connects directly to the work our Student Ambassador Purvang Dave is championing. As he powerfully stated at our recent awards: he stands as "the echo of every young person who was told tech isn't for them - not because they weren't smart enough, but because no one let them be seen." The uncomfortable truth: "Diverse" workforces can still systematically exclude entire communities. The necessary action: Remove arbitrary barriers. Embrace the global marketplace. Look beyond narrow talent pools. COVID accelerated what we should have known all along - talent has no borders. People's nationality, religion, or location shouldn't determine their ability to contribute to Australian tech. Tech Reflects Vol 2 drops end of this month. Ready for some uncomfortable but necessary conversations about who we're really including? Thanks Yolanda Kerr for volunteering your time at the Foundation. We welcome our community to reach out to us to discuss more... #TechDiversity #InclusiveTech #GlobalTalent #TechReflects
