Non-profit Organizations
Protecting children, guiding best practice responses and pathways to healing for survivors.
About us
The National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse (National Centre) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established to increase understanding of child sexual abuse, promote effective ways for protecting children, guide best practice responses and pathways to healing for survivors, and reduce the harm it causes. The National Centre is a joint venture between Blue Knot Foundation, The Healing Foundation and the Australian Childhood Foundation with initial funding from the Australian Government. The three organisations have united to form an Australian-first partnership that will commission critical research, evaluate interventions and therapeutic programs, raise community awareness, reduce stigma and provide training.

Today is the 7th anniversary of the National Apology to Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse. To mark this important day, the National Centre is launching Voices for Action - a campaign designed to hear from victims and survivors. We’re asking: What action is needed? Share your voice through story, artwork, music, video, or whatever way feels right for you. Your insights will help shape future policy, advocacy and systems reform. Victims and survivors have told us that real change starts by listening. This platform creates a space for that to happen. Learn more and make a submission here: https://lnkd.in/gMmJXjMh #VoicesForAction #NationalApology #HereForChange

The 2025 Children's Week theme, “Everyone should know about children’s rights”, prompts us to raise awareness about an essential right: UNCRC Article 12 states that every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them – and to have those views taken seriously. A National Centre commissioned research project, 'Building trauma-responsive sexual health and relationship education', led by A/Prof Tim Moore, Institute of Child Protection Studies, Australian Catholic University, is putting this right into action. Many young people feel relationship and sexual health education needs a re-think. This is particularly true for young people who have experienced maltreatment. This project centres young people with lived experience as important collaborators. The insights gained from this co-designed project will help educators deliver trauma-responsive relationship and sexual health education that truly meets young people's needs. Many older adults are living with the impacts of child sexual abuse - with many never having disclosed their experience. As they navigate aged care and health care services, it is critical that caregivers create trauma-responsive environments where older adults feel comfortable disclosing. This International Day of Older Persons, we're sharing a recording of our latest In Conversation webinar, ‘Compassionate aged care for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse’. Whether you're an aged care practitioner, work in primary healthcare or community services, or support older adults in your personal life, this session offers crucial insights into the ongoing impacts of non-disclosure and how to provide compassionate care. Watch the recording and join the conversation about creating more trauma-informed and supportive environments for older people: https://lnkd.in/ga8vUTSa #HereForChange #AgedCare #OlderPersonsDay

Domestic and family violence perpetrators are more likely to sexually abuse their children, however responses to these intersecting issues often operate in isolation and without coordination. Professor Michael Salter from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) is leading a National Centre funded project addressing this gap. The project investigates how legal systems respond when child sexual abuse occurs alongside domestic violence, how services manage these co-occurring cases and how we can draw on lived experience from the perspective of survivors. As the project nears completion, the critical knowledge emerging will help inform evidence-based recommendations to improve outcomes for victims and survivors.
