It was great to be on-site at the Liddell Battery Energy Storage System recently with our partners at AGL, seeing firsthand the incredible work underway as we continue to work together to shape Australia's energy future. Today, I am pleased to share another milestone for Fluence and AGL: we have been selected to deliver the 500 MW / 2,000 MWh Tomago Battery Energy Storage System in Newcastle, New South Wales. This project is a major step for Australia’s energy transition and represents our largest ever storage transaction globally. With the Tomago system, Fluence will surpass 5 GWh of projects in Australia, an incredible achievement driven by the dedication of our team and our strong partnership with AGL. Featuring our Gridstack Pro™ product, the Tomago system will play a critical role in strengthening the grid, integrating more renewables, and supporting system reliability. Innovators in regional NSW are playing a critical role in driving the state’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Through the Clean Technology Innovation program, $26.2 million is being invested in 13 groundbreaking low-emissions projects, helping to turn promising research into real-world solutions. This funding is part of the broader $275 million Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative, which is designed to accelerate innovation and decarbonisation across the state. Regional companies are leading the way, including PlasmaLeap Technologies, Sicona Battery Technologies, FPR Energy, Lab 360 Solar, H Nu Energy, Renewable Metals and Kardinia Energy. These businesses are demonstrating that regional NSW is helping to turbocharge the clean economy. Projects supported by these grants include: ✔️Underwater robotic hull cleaners that reduce ship emissions and prevent the spread of invasive species (Hullbot) ✔️Shark-skin inspired adhesive films that reduce aircraft drag and emissions A cleaner, more efficient method for lithium extraction (MicroTau) ✔️On-farm technology that turns agricultural waste into green hydrogen and ammonia (HydGene Renewables) The world’s first commercial facility for Printed Solar, recently showcased during Coldplay’s world tour. Fantastic to see Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) back Calix Limited's green iron technology with a $44.9m injection to develop a 30,000 tonne low-carbon DRI/HBI demonstration plant for its novel Zero Emissions Steel Technology (ZESTY) platform. A final investment decision is targeted for FY26, with the project also to complete an engineering study for a commercial-scale ZESTY plant to facilitate future commercial deployment. The demonstration plant will be able to process multiple iron ore types and grades to produce DRI/HBI products suitable for multiple steelmakers across different steelmaking pathways. The flexibility of Calix's ZESTY platform, not only from an iron ore supply chain perspective, but its ability to operate on intermittent renewable energy, makes it a critical technology for Australia to leverage its abundant iron ore resources and renewable energy comparative advantage in a decarbonised global steel value chain. Melbourne-based air-conditioning startup Conry Tech has raised $3 million in Seed funding to help change the way cooling systems work in offices and commercial buildings. The funding round was led by Audacy, an investor that focuses on climate technology. The new funds will help Conry Tech finish developing its innovative “BullAnt” air-conditioner, which could cut energy costs in commercial buildings by up to half and significantly reduce carbon emissions. I've wanted this feature for years, but first we had to collect data on all 478 significant generators connected to the two grids we monitor. It's been a great pleasure to be the product manager of OE since 2017. OE is built on the great foundations and expertise of Dylan McConnell. Excited to release our public grid-forming inverters white paper, that specifically addresses the application in Australia in the NEM and SWIS. Here in Australia, Tesla alone are expecting to have 4.5 GW of grid-forming inverters operating by the end of next year, and we expect that number to double again. It's an exciting time for the industry, with system operators globally managing the displacement of traditional synchronous generators with inverter based renewables and storage. It's through informed debate and collaboration, engineering design and testing, and a growing base of empirical evidence and experience, that the power system begins to rely on this technology to provide system strength services. Remember, the power system has relied on the electromagnetic coupling of synchronous generators to provide these essential services for almost 150 years, there's some inertia to overcome!
