Earlier this week, I had the privilege of speaking at the Factor Data & AI Forum, discussing a topic close to my heart: the critical role of robust data foundations in crafting impactful AI solutions. While AI often takes centre stage in discussions about AI solutions, the true magic lies in the groundwork laid beforehand: - Data quality - Data integration - Data governance - Data accessibility These pillars form the bedrock upon which successful AI endeavours stand. Without them, even the most sophisticated AI technologies may struggle to expand, evolve, or provide enduring benefits. During my chat, I emphasised the importance of treating data as infrastructure rather than mere byproduct—an essential component that ensures AI initiatives evolve beyond concepts into catalysts for significant change. 🔥 Oracle reported a massive jump in bookings of future #artificialintelligence business for its cloud infrastructure unit on Tuesday, sending shares in the US database company up 25 per cent to a record high in after-hours trading. The company’s remaining performance obligations — business it has booked that will feed through into future revenue — leapt to $455bn, up from only $138bn three months ago. Safra Catz, chief executive, called it an “astonishing quarter” that had included Oracle signing “four multibillion-dollar contracts with three different customers” in the latest three months. We need to inculcate a robust risk and compliance culture around GenAI adoption: 🔸Zero-Tolerance for Unvetted Output Regardless of the tools used, errors like fabricated references signal a lack of internal controls and quality assurance. 🔸Accountability over Automation Organisations must establish clear internal standards that delineate when and how AI can be used, ensuring there is a named human owner accountable for every final output. 🔸AI Governance as Compliance Treating AI governance not as an IT policy, but as a core compliance risk. This mandates rigorous testing, audit trails, and mandatory human review gates for all critical documentation. The cost of a partial refund pales in comparison to the long-term cost of eroded trust.
