The latest Australian household spending indicator (which replaces the Retail Sales series) showed retail sales growth of 4.8% for July 2025, up from 3.8% in June 2025. The strongest growth was in “Other” retailing, which includes online pure-play, pharmacy and recreational goods. Department stores had a surprisingly strong result and household goods was solid too. We expect growth rates to hover close to 4% over the remainder of 2025. Are you a NSW startup looking to commercialise your innovative product? Unlock your potential with the Minimal Viable Product (MVP) Ventures Program! The MVP Ventures Program is a NSW Government grant to support businesses bring new innovations to market. A total of $3 million is available each year for the next four years starting this financial year. There will be three application rounds for funding throughout 2025-26. The program will offer two funding streams, with a tailored stream for businesses founded by women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and regional entrepreneurs to address systemic barriers to raising required co-contribution funding. ◾ Stream 1 is available for all eligible businesses with a maximum grant of $50,000 and a minimum co-contribution of 50%. ◾ Stream 2 is available for eligible women-owned businesses, regional businesses and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander businesses with a maximum grant of $75,000 and a minimum co-contribution of 25%. Applications for Round 1 of the 2025-26 MVP Ventures Program will open on Monday 1 September 2025. Today's bold bet from our CMO Awards 2025 winners list comes from MYOB chief commercial officer, Dean Chadwick. Chadwick posed a bold question early on: How often can a B2B organisation act and behave like a B2C brand, delivering product innovation through a new brand proposition in Australia? His answer: “Welcome to Solo MYOB.” 📋 With 1.9 million sole operators representing 61 per cent of the total addressable market, Chadwick’s strategy combined product innovation, brand creation, and sharp execution with a clear audience focus: tradies, health and wellness, professional services, arts, education and admin. “These people are the lifeblood of our communities and economy,” Chadwick says. “This is a brand-new product for an underserved audience that is mobile and smart from day one. From a brand strategy we had a blank canvas allowing us to be highly considered on who and how we want to show up. The backing of MYOB gave us leverage on existing channels and then freedom to innovate further with the new brand to connect to a younger audience." Sole operators face numerous and burdensome administrative challenges such as invoicing, expense tracking, banking connection, instant payments, and maintaining ATO-ready records. The resulting new product, Solo by MYOB aims to simplify these tasks, allowing users to focus more on their primary work rather than administrative burdens.
