Canberra’s clean energy future is one step closer with the Big Canberra Battery transformer delivered to the Williamsdale site this week. The transformer ensures electricity stored in the battery is converted to the correct voltage to be safely supplied to the grid. This allows renewable energy to flow to homes and businesses across Canberra when demand is high and solar generation drops. The Big Canberra Battery will deliver at least 250 megawatts of power, enough stored renewable energy to supply one-third of Canberra for two hours during peak demand. It will help keep the lights on, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and support the ACT’s transition to net-zero emissions. In partnership with Eku Energy, construction is underway on concrete bases for the batteries and the main switching building. The large-scale battery energy storage system is on track to be operational in 2026. The ACT Government will receive a 50 per cent share of the net revenue generated from the battery’s participation in the National Electricity Market. This investment provides a financial return to the Government balance sheet, supports 150 local jobs at peak construction in the emerging clean energy sector and improves energy security for Canberrans. By investing in the Big Canberra Battery, we are delivering clean, reliable power and creating jobs for our community, ensuring the financial and energy security benefits of this project are shared across Canberra.

This Gov platform built in conjunction with EVenergi layers data like traffic flows, grid capacity, existing and planned fast chargers, population hotspots, and local amenities. Enabling smarter planning for targeted public and private investment in EV charging infrastructure For businesses, fleet managers, or organisations offering salary‑packaged EV to employees, this tool is a game‑changer. We use similar data‑driven methods to design depot charging networks, optimise smart load distribution, and align fleet transition plans with real‑world infrastructure growth. Access to this mapping platform allows us to fine‑tune charging strategies and meet operational needs with precision. Timely, data‑driven planning like this supports confident decision‑making and cost‑effective scaling of EV services. Innovators in regional NSW are playing a critical role in driving the state’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Through the Clean Technology Innovation program, $26.2 million is being invested in 13 groundbreaking low-emissions projects, helping to turn promising research into real-world solutions. This funding is part of the broader $275 million Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative, which is designed to accelerate innovation and decarbonisation across the state. Regional companies are leading the way, including PlasmaLeap Technologies, Sicona Battery Technologies, FPR Energy, Lab 360 Solar, H Nu Energy, Renewable Metals and Kardinia Energy. These businesses are demonstrating that regional NSW is helping to turbocharge the clean economy. Projects supported by these grants include: ✔️Underwater robotic hull cleaners that reduce ship emissions and prevent the spread of invasive species (Hullbot) ✔️Shark-skin inspired adhesive films that reduce aircraft drag and emissions A cleaner, more efficient method for lithium extraction (MicroTau) ✔️On-farm technology that turns agricultural waste into green hydrogen and ammonia (HydGene Renewables) The world’s first commercial facility for Printed Solar, recently showcased during Coldplay’s world tour.
