Melbourne Avalon Airport has today announced it is proud to have signed a new Teaming Agreement with Lockheed Martin Australia. The agreement was signed at Avalon Airport, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles MP, Lockheed Martin Chief Executive Australia & New Zealand Warren McDonald AO CSC, and Member for Lara Ella George MP in attendance. Under the agreement, Lockheed Martin will lease a facility at Avalon to support domestic assembly of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) munitions, a critical step in building Australia’s sovereign guided weapons capability. This partnership reinforces Avalon’s position as a strategic industrial and defence hub between Melbourne and Geelong, already home to more than 2,000 workers. David Fox, Executive Chairman of Linfox Airports, said: “Avalon is proud to partner with Lockheed Martin in this exciting new chapter. This development underscores Avalon’s critical role in supporting Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities.”

🎉 Exciting news! REDARC Defence & Space has officially completed stage one of its $50M Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub in Lonsdale. Once complete, the two-storey, high-tech hub will supercharge REDARC's ability to design, manufacture and deliver mission-critical systems for the Australian Defence Force, as well as national and international space and defence programs. The hub is also set to create up to 200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. Some of the Hiringa team have been busy behind the scenes working with Stralis Aircraft (YC W23) and Air New Zealand to help get hydrogen aviation off the ground – literally! This week, Stralis Aircraft started testing their ground-breaking high-temperature fuel cell technology in Air New Zealand’s Auckland Airport engine test cell facility. Stralis Aircraft is developing fuel cells to power high-performance, low operating cost, hydrogen-electric propulsion systems for aircraft. Their high-temperature PEM fuel-cell technology is significantly lighter than existing alternatives, enabling aircraft to fly ten times further than battery-electric solutions at a lower cost than fossil-fuel-powered planes✈️ As well as working on our own hydrogen projects, it’s awesome to lend a hand to help others accelerate the hydrogen future 🤝 Thanks to Ara Ake and the NZ Product Accelerator hosted by University of Auckland for making the connections and supporting the team with this important innovation. PteroDynamics, in collaboration with Babcock, has showcased its autonomous P4 Transwing® VTOL UAS to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), a branch of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), at the Beecroft Weapons Range. Two Transwing P4 aircraft were put through diverse operational capability tests, examining endurance, abilities over water, and its capacity to launch, transit, and recover different payloads within confined areas.
