From an Edge DC to a Region to a Major metro - the $200m NEXTDC investment for the #SC2 data centre outlines how important the edge will be in the AI revolution. In partnership with Google and Sunshine Coast Council, the Maroochydore digital growth can be seen as the strategic tip of the spear for edge facilities and their importance in the digital economy. Google's $1B investment in the Pacific Connect program including the the Tabua trans‑Pacific subsea cable landing at NEXTDC Sunshine Coast establishes a high-capacity, low-latency digital corridor between Australia, Fiji and the United States when combined with BOSUN and new interlinks through Darwin, Perth, Melbourne and Singapore. Support from the Sunshine Coast Council, and Mayor Rosanna Natoli has been vital in helping this technological foundation come to life to bring advanced capability to the region, Australia's sovereign capability and the foundation needed for Australian to meaningfully participate in the #AI race.
