QREC has welcomed today’s announcement under the Federal Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme, including six large-scale Queensland renewable energy projects delivering over 2000MW of new clean energy capacity. Five of these projects are being developed by QREC member companies, showcasing the strength and capability of Queensland’s renewable energy industry. This milestone underscores the Sunshine State’s position as a national leader in the clean energy transition, combining abundant solar and wind resources, world-class expertise, and strong regional partnerships. UOW has received a $650,000 grant from the NSW Government to lead critical research into hydrogen pipeline safety. UOW is the only institution in Australia, and one of just five globally, with the capability to conduct this type of testing and the research has the potential to transform safe hydrogen transportation around the world. “This project sits at the intersection of our Industry Policy and Innovation Blueprint, reflecting the importance of investing in scientific research to help solve the challenges shaping the future of some of our biggest industries," said Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology Anoulack Chanthivong. “The University of Wollongong has produced nation-leading and globally recognised work on hydrogen in the past and the NSW Government is excited to see UOW, in partnership with industry, pave the way for a more sustainable and innovative future.” To be delivered over two years, the research will zero-in on the leading cause of hydrogen pipeline failures and develop risk assessment and design tools to address them. #UOWResearch

Powering up Australia’s energy future. We welcome today's announcement by the Commonwealth Government to support the Mt Piper Battery Energy Storage (BESS) project through the Capacity Investment Scheme. The Mt Piper BESS, planned near Lithgow NSW, will have the capacity to power up to 320,000 homes and small businesses for four hours at times of peak demand once operational. Large-scale batteries like Mt Piper BESS are becoming essential as more renewable energy comes online and traditional generation retires. We’re looking forward to seeing this project progress alongside others across Australia, all playing a role in shaping a more flexible energy future.

Our CEO Frank Calabria recently visited the teams at two of our regional power stations that are playing important roles in supplying reliable energy through the transition. At Mortlake, in south-west Victoria, the team is preparing for a major outage on Unit 12 to make sure we’re ready for peak summer demand, while next door construction is progressing on our 300 MW large-scale battery, that is set to come online in late 2026. Meanwhile in South Australia, Ladbroke Grove has had more than 400 starts in the past year alone, helping keep the lights on in a state where renewables now supply around 70% of the energy mix. #EnergyTransition #EnergySector

Hiringa Energy, Sundown Pastoral Company and the NSW Government announced that financial close has been reached on the Good Earth Green Hydrogen and Ammonia (GEGHA) project in Moree, regional NSW. Project financing was provided by the National Australia Bank, with funding from the NSW state government.
