Cobra Strikes as Navy Modernises Satellite Systems 🐍🛰️ The Royal Australian Navy has launched a project to replace its satellite communications, with the upgrade of HMAS Sydney’s SATCOM capability. The ship’s existing Maritime Advanced SATCOM Terrestrial Infrastructure System (MASTIS), first introduced fleet-wide in the early 2000s, is being replaced by the advanced King Cobra system. After 25 years of service, MASTIS will be fully phased out in favour of the King Cobra and Cobra systems, selected as the Navy’s primary and alternate SATCOM systems. Both were chosen for their enhanced performance and are designed to operate on the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) constellations. 🎉 Exciting news! REDARC Defence & Space has officially completed stage one of its $50M Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub in Lonsdale. Once complete, the two-storey, high-tech hub will supercharge REDARC's ability to design, manufacture and deliver mission-critical systems for the Australian Defence Force, as well as national and international space and defence programs. The hub is also set to create up to 200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. Defence Security Division had a huge turnout for the 2025 Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) Industry Forum with around 750 industry representatives attending the two-day event at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on 24 – 25 July. This year’s theme ‘Defence Secured: Industry Excellence’ was aimed at Small & Medium enterprises and incorporated presentations and workshops led by Government and industry supply partners. The Forum provided a valuable opportunity for industry to learn how to manage governance and cyber challenges and be better prepared to access Defence projects and supply chains. The event included industry-focused trade stands from across Government, allowing face-to-face contact with industry support networks. Thank you to all our attendees, presenters and workshops leads. DroneShield's Vice President of Strategy, Terry van Haren DSM, will be speaking at the Indo-Pacific Robotics, Autonomy, AI and Cyber Conference and Exhibition 2025 on 8 October.
