  • Communication architecture and data acquisition for experimental MicroGrid installations

IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference 2015 (IEEE PES APPEEC 2015)

In this paper, the communication architecture of an experimental MicroGrid is designed and implemented. Modbus TCP/IP is used as the communication protocol in the MicroGrid to receive data and send commands to different components within the MicroGrid. HTTP TCP/IP is applied as a back-up protocol in case of no availability of Modbus TCP/IP, and also serves as the protocol platform for displaying meaningful data regarding the MicroGrid. Implementation of data acquisition in a database for control and forecasting purposes and data exhibition in a website for monitoring purposes are also presented in this paper. A design for a future implementation of an AC/DC Hybrid Multi-MicroGrid with an advanced communication architecture is proposed as the next phase of the experimental MicroGrid.

  • A comparison between synergetic control and feedback linearization for stabilizing MVDC microgrids with constant power load

Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT-Europe), 2014 IEEE PES

This paper investigates the use of synergetic control for voltage stability of a DC microgrid where the loads are interfaced through power electronic converters fed from a DC power source. When tightly regulated, these loads exhibit a constant power load (CPL) behavior. CPLs have negative incremental impedance behavior which may lead to system instability. The synergetic control approach is compared with a linearizing feedback approach, which was investigated by the authors before and therefore…

The synergetic control approach is compared with a linearizing feedback approach, which was investigated by the authors before and therefore serves as a reference case. Both of the selected approach achieve stability at large signal level and overcome hereby the limits of existing small signal approaches. Both of the selected control techniques act on the interface converters at the generator side and leave the load side converters untouched. The real time performance of the system and their controllers is observed on a MVDC microgrid which is implemented in Opal-RT.

  • Long Term Planning of Medium Voltage Networks

    -

Planned a medium voltage grid for a locality. Used the green field approach to the problem. Planned, estimated and compared costs for different types of networks including Branch, Ring, Load Center and Mesh. Conducted load flow analysis using the software Desire and reliability analysis using the software Quintessence. The reliability of the different networks were compared and the results presented.
