Western Alliance and the Grampians Region Health Service Partnership have officially launched an evaluation of the Grampians Residential In Reach (RIR) Program — a nurse-led, telehealth-enabled initiative improving access to specialist care for older adults in aged care homes across western Victoria. Partnering with the DELIVER research team, this 14-month evaluation is the first of its kind in Australia, aiming to reduce hospital admissions, enhance continuity of care, and bring healthcare closer to home. It also aims to facilitate smoother transitions from hospital back to aged care, ensuring residents return to familiar environments with appropriate support. “This is a true collaboration between health services, universities, and aged care providers. 👩🏽‍⚕️ Registered nurses across Australia will soon begin training to able to prescribe medicines and antibiotics, giving faster access to care and shorter wait times Hailed as one of the most significant shifts in Australian healthcare in decades, the move seeks to address workforce shortages, ease pressure on overworked GPs, and improve access to medicines. For patients in rural and remote communities the change could be transformative. "Nurse prescribing has the potential to leverage the expertise of the nursing workforce to address persistent gaps in access to health care and medicines," says Professor Marie Gerdtz, Dean of La Trobe's School Nursing and Midwifery. Yesterday, Allied Health Professions Australia CEO Bronwyn Morris-Donovan represented the #alliedhealth sector at the 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 in Sydney. The roundtable was a valuable day of discussion that will inform the upcoming Treasurer's #EconomicReform Roundtable, taking place on 19-21 August. Discussions canvassed four key areas: ☑️ the care workforce ☑️ digital systems and AI ☑️ keeping Australians healthy through prevention, early intervention and better treatment ☑️ how to best integrate the health, disability and ageing sectors.
