Recent Survey, out of New Zealand, Reveals a Critical Gap in Building Design accorrding to this recently released report: The latest NZIA Energy Modelling Practices Survey highlights a major disconnect in Aotearoa’s path to net-zero. Despite energy modelling being a powerful tool for better buildings, it remains underutilised: 📉 Only 38% of respondents incorporate predictive modelling 📐 Most projects rely on simplified, compliance-focused methods ❗ Critical risks like thermal bridging, heat loss, and moisture are rarely assessed Compare that with: 🇦🇺 Australia — 90% of homes assessed under NatHERS 🇬🇧 UK — mandatory modelling + new Home Energy Model rolling out The benefits are clear: ✅ Lower bills ✅ Greater comfort ✅ Smarter design decisions ✅ Reduced carbon impact And the cost? A study in Australia found that improving energy ratings from 5.9 to 7.1 stars added just $37 on average to build costs. 🚨 It’s time to modernise NZ’s design standards and phase out outdated compliance methods, mandate predictive energy modelling, set absolute performance targets and upskill professional to design for health, comfort, and climate Let’s stop settling for "code-minimum." #Future of #Work & #ZeroCarbon in #Construction - BRANZ+ConCOVE Tūhura The transition to a zero-carbon built environment is one of the defining challenges for Aotearoa New Zealand’s construction sector. It isn’t only about new #technologies and #materials, it’s also about #skills, #knowledge, and preparing our #workforce for what lies ahead. BRANZ and ConCOVE Tūhura have launched a #national #survey to capture perspectives from across the sector. The aim is to understand current levels of #awareness and #readiness, and to identify the #capabilities needed to support a #sustainable, #climateresponsive #future.
