Following the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) decision to decrease the official cash rate by 0.25% per annum (p.a.), CBA will decrease home loan variable interest rates by 0.25% p.a. The Reserve Bank’s decision to cut the cash rate to 3.60% provides a welcome boost to the housing sector, encouraging confidence among buyers looking to enter the market or upgrade their homes. While the cut is welcome, sustaining any uplift will require coordinated action on planning reform, land supply, infrastructure investment, and workforce capacity. With sentiment poised to improve, the industry has an opportunity - and a responsibility - to turn renewed confidence into long-term, sustainable growth. On 5 September representatives from the RBA, Commonwealth Treasury, Australian Payments Network and Australian Payments Plus participated in the first meeting of the Account-to-account Payments Roundtable. The Roundtable’s main purpose is to develop a common vision for the future of the account-to-account payments system and a plan to achieve that vision. Modernising the account-to-account payments system to meet the future needs of its end users is a priority payments policy initiative for the RBA.
