I am very pleased to share that the Asian Development Bank (Asian Development Bank (ADB)) has signed a $30 million sustainability-linked loan facility agreement with Envoy Textiles Limited (Envoy) in #Bangladesh— our first #sustainability-linked loan in the country. Long-term commercial loans are not easily available to private sector companies in Bangladesh. ADB’s loan helps bridge this gap by providing long-term USD financing. The Envoy Sustainability-Linked Loan Project will contribute to setting a new standard for the #garment sector in Bangladesh by advancing environmental sustainability and industrial modernization. ADB’s sustainability-linked loan will enable Envoy to expand its production capacity, invest in renewable energy, and further reduce its environmental footprint. Global demand for #denim remains strong — offering a positive outlook for Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (#RMG) industry, a key driver of the country’s economy. RMG industry contributed 11% to GDP in FY2023 and generated more than 80% of total export earnings in FY2025. Envoy will use the loan to build a new automated and more #energy-efficient spinning unit to increase its yarn production; install 3.5 MWp of rooftop #solar panels at the factory; and refinance short-term local working capital loans. The unit will have an annual yarn production capacity of 4,550 tons, which will primarily be used for the in-house production of denim fabrics. BRAC Bank PLC has crossed the $1 billion mark in market capitalisation, becoming the only bank in Bangladesh to reach this milestone, according to a press release. As of 24 July, its share price stood at Tk 68.8, significantly above the face value of Tk 10, taking its market capitalisation to Tk 13,691 crore with 199 crore listed shares. Sponsor-directors hold 46.17%, foreign investors 33.79% the highest among local bankswhile local institutions and general investors hold 13.28% and 6.76%, respectively.
