✨ As we wrap up our event, we would like to highlight key concluding messages mentioned by the event moderator, John Brosnan 🌿 1️⃣ European forest owners have an important role to play in the bioeconomy to make the EU more resilient, autonomous, and competitive. They are not mere stakeholders — this is why the new Bioeconomy Strategy should encompass them as enablers. The strategy should therefore address the whole supply chain’s challenges and opportunities. 2️⃣ Our forests are sustainably managed according to many existing rules and the Forest Europe principles. We need a stable and unbureaucratic legislative framework, with no new complex rules. 🙏 A big thank you to all speakers and participants for sharing concrete examples, challenges, and solutions to boost Europe’s agricultural and forest-based bioeconomy — and to our co-organisers COPA COGECA and European State Forest Association | EUSTAFOR for their great work and effort in making today’s event a success. Europe’s forest owners and farmers are commited to contributing to the bioeconomy and to a more sustainable, competitive, and resilient future. 💚 Read our Joint Press Release here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eupu2dWn #EUBioeconomy #EUForests #SustainableForestManagement #Agriculture #Sustainability #GreenTransition

The opening session is underway! 🌍 We are honoured to be joined by Commissioner Christophe Hansen, who opened the event and set the tone by highlighting the importance of a competitive and resilient EU bioeconomy as well as the crucial role of primary producers in the value chain. We were also pleased to hear from Mathias Bach Kirkegaard, Environment Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Denmark to the EU, who shared his valuable perspectives on Europe's bioeconomy. Representatives Patrick Pagani (COPA COGECA), Carl-Anton Waldeck (CEPF), and Juha Niemelä (European State Forest Association | EUSTAFOR) reaffirmed the commitment of primary producers to contribute to the bioeconomy by facilitating the shift away from fossil-based materials and energy through the supply of sustainably sourced and renewable raw materials, providing services to society, ensuring jobs, and supporting viable rural areas — all while continuing to develop resilient forestry and agriculture. A powerful start to the day! ✨ #EUbioeconomy #EUForests #Farmers #Forests #Sustainability #EUevents #SustainableForestManagement

🌲 CEPF at the EU Forest Directors Meeting under the Danish Presidency 🇩🇰 This week, our Secretary General, Fanny Pomme Langue is attending the Forest Directors Meeting hosted by the Danish Presidency — an important forum to discuss the future of Europe’s forests and sustainable forest management. Among others, together with other stakeholders, CEPF contributed to the EU’s “3 Billion Trees by 2030” pledge by planting different trees — a small yet symbolic step that reaffirms our commitment to #biodiversity, #climate #action, #forest #resilience, and the #sustainable #growth of Europe’s forests. 🌳 Looking forward to fruitful outcomes from this important gathering. 🌍 #EUForests #SustainableForestManagement

📢 Upcoming #Thinkforest/ SUPERB webinar: From #Nature #Restoration to National Restoration Plans - What Support Can the Latest Science Offer? 🗓 Date: Tuesday 4th November 2025 🕓 Time: 10:00-11:30 am CET 💻 Register here: https://lnkd.in/etXKYTan The EU #NatureRestorationRegulation (#NRR), in force since 18 August 2024, sets legally binding targets to halt and reverse the decline of #ecosystems in the EU. By 2030, restoration measures must cover at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea; by 2050, all ecosystems in need must be addressed. To fulfil these ambitious goals, each EU Member State must submit a #NationalRestorationPlan (#NRP) by 1st September 2026. #Forest ecosystems are an important pillar of the NRR. The regulation applies not only to forests that are already under protection (e.g. Natura 2000), but to all forests in the EU. Given that Europe’s forests differ widely in growing conditions, species composition, landscape and disturbance patterns, restoration plans must be tailored, forward-looking, science‑based and socially accepted. Join this ThinkForest/ SUPERB webinar to: 🌲 explore different drivers of forest #degradation and restoration approaches, including ecological and adaptive measures 🤝 discuss key success factors for forest restoration like inclusive governance forms and participatory approaches 💡 foster dialogue on challenges and opportunities in designing effective, realistic and synergistic NRP 🎙 Speakers include: Helga Puelzl, Assistant Director, European Forest Institute Elisabeth Schatzdorfer, Principal Scientist, European Forest Institute Gesche Schifferdecker, Communications Manager, European Forest Institute Florian Claeys, European Commission, DG Environment Jenni Roche, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Ireland Katarina Tumpa, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Croatia Łukasz Rejt, Ministry of Climate and Environment, Poland

What motivates forest owners to join biodiversity restoration schemes? A new study from the SUPERB project, published in Restoration Ecology, explored how forest owners in Denmark and Finland respond to different kinds of agreements for supporting biodiversity in their forests. The research showed that many owners want much higher compensation to join result-based schemes, where payments depend on proven improvements in biodiversity. In Finland, owners asked for more than double compared to action-based schemes, which simply pay for carrying out agreed management practices (like planting or habitat protection). Preferences also varied by country: Danish owners welcomed outside consultant support, while Finnish owners preferred to do self-monitoring under action-based contracts – but disliked monitoring when payments depended on biodiversity results. Overall, the study highlights that restoring nature on private land will only succeed if agreements are designed to fit both the practical needs of forest owners and the ecological goals of restoration. This insight is particularly important as the EU shapes its new Forest Strategy for 2030. 🌲Private forest owner preferences for action- and result-based biodiversity restoration 👉 Read the study here: https://lnkd.in/dWSv85_Q #biodiversity #forest #forestrestoration #forestowners
