On 16 October, #EU_Rail member German Aerospace Center (DLR) hosted the 7th SmartRaCon Scientific Seminar in Stuttgart, Germany. Our Head of the Innovation Pillar, Nicolas Furio, presented a keynote highlighting the latest EU-Rail Research & Innovation (R&I) activities, our Flagship Projects new opportunities (EU-Rail Call 2025-2) and the strategic vision of Europe’s Rail. 🚄 On 2 October, EU-Rail’s Head of Innovation Pillar Nicolas Furio joined the 8th edition of ICT for RAILWAYS International Workshop in Madrid, a key gathering where industry experts dived into how regulations, standardisation and cutting-edge research are shaping the future of #rail. The event provided an opportunity to present how #EU_RAIL contributes to the development of rail transportation through a systemic approach. From simplifying the railway system to boosting collaboration and cutting costs, the discussions highlighted the big steps needed to keep rail competitive in Europe. What’s next for the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (#FRMCS) in Europe? 📍Today, at the 4th UIC - International union of railways #UICrail#UICrail Global FRMCS Conference in Paris, #EU_Rail Senior Programme Managers Léa Paties and Karel van Gils took the stage to present the EU-Rail vision for the future of railway communications. 🛤️ During a dedicated panel on #FP2MORANE2, Lea Paties outlined the objectives of this EU-Rail co-funded initiative, coordinated by UIC, with 12 European railways, 13 manufacturers, UNIFE | The European Rail Supply Industry Association and two Mobile Network Operators. A key pillar of the ERTMS evolution, the project aims to boost the capacity, digitalisation and competitiveness of rail transport across Europe. 📊 The panel was followed by insights from EU-Rail and the European Commission on the current status and intermediate results of FRMCS. 🚅 From 23rd to 26th TRAKO POLAND fair was the perfect platform to showcase rail innovations, including the latest achievements in the rollout of the Digital Automatic Coupling in Europe. On the first day, participants met #DAC experts involved in the European DAC Delivery Programme and the Europe’s Rail projects FP5-TRANS4M-R, DACFIT and FP5DACtiVate. Furthermore, nearly 30 participants toured various stands, getting a comprehensive overview of DAC activities across Europe. ⚙️ The tour began with a brief introduction by Nicolas Furio, Head of Innovation Pillar of Europe’s Rail, and Enno Wiebe, the Director General of UNIFE | The European Rail Supply Industry Association, representing the European rail supply industry. Instytut Kolejnictwa (Railway Institute) presented its role in the #DACFIT project. PKP S.A. introduced their activities connected to FP5-DACtiVate project and finally, DAC manufacturers, Dellner - Train Connection Systems and Voith Turbo showcased their digital automatic and hybrid coupler. 💬 The showcase was followed by the DAC Panel Discussion, organised by Instytut Kolejnictwa (Railway Institute) and Land Transport Chamber of Commerce, discussing the advantages as well as challenges of DAC implementation and its implications for freight transport. Nicolas Furio opened the session and panelists Libor Lochman from EDDP, Jan Bergstrand from Trafikverket, Zbigniew JANCEWICZ from PKP S.A. and Mirosław Szczelina from IGTL discussed DAC progress in DAC implementation, PioDAC introduction, European migration strategies, and the possible transitional challenges.

🚆 Today we hosted the online Info Day to present the new #EU_Rail Call for Proposals 2025-02, with a total EU funding of over €148 million! The event saw strong participation, with over 250 attendees joining us online. 📍On 25th-26th September our Austrian member Frequentis hosted the Rail Days 2025, an event dedicated to the evolution of their railway solutions and the technologies shaping the future of #rail. 🤝The event brought together customers, partners, and representatives from three international associations- UIC - International union of railways #UICrail, Austrian Rail Industry and the EU-Rail - to discuss innovations ranging from the Future Railway Communication System (FRMCS) all the way to #AI-driven sensors, drones for critical infrastructure and beyond. 🎤During the innovation session, EU-Rail’s Executive Director Giorgio Travaini gave a keynote address focused on ERJU’s strategic direction vision.
