It’s a GO! We launch subgroup 3 on regulatory aspects of space traffic management (STM) With the first meeting on 24 October 2025, DG DEFIS officially launched subgroup 3 of the STM stakeholder mechanism. This long-awaited subgroup, chaired by DG DEFIS, gathers representatives from EU Member States, EU space industry associations, experts in the field of standardisation and voluntary initiatives, and European space law experts. STM subgroup 3 will help implement the third avenue on “fostering the STM regulatory aspects” of the Joint Communication on an EU approach to STM, with a focus on non-binding measures. In their first meeting, STM subgroup 3 members heard about the wider context of EU Space Traffic Management and its related implemented activities. This included amongst other things followed by: 🔹 insights into the subgroup’s working methods, 🔹 details on the feasibility study on an EU Space Label, as well as 🔹 conclusions from the STM voluntary measures workshop held last month which they were invited to follow online. In the following exchange of views, STM subgroup 3 members started reflecting on non-binding measures to be developed and/or promoted, effective ways to ensure uptake of such measures, and aspects to consider for a future #EUSpace Label. 🛰️ The first Sentinel-4 images are a major milestone in Europe’s ability to monitor air quality all the way from geostationary orbit, 36,000 kilometres above Earth. This image, based on the Sentinel-4 very first measurements acquired on 8 October 2025, depicts tropospheric nitrogen dioxide with clear pollution hotspots visible along the Mediterranean coast and over Italy’s Po Valley. 📖 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eCCtYHr7 #EUSpace | EUMETSAT | ESA Earth Observation | EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme | EU Environment and Climate | European Commission

🌊 Like stars spilled across the sea, the shipping lanes along the Aegean Islands shimmer in this composite image created from four years (2020–2024) of #CopernicusEU Sentinel-1 data. 🛰️ The Sentinel-1 mission continues to provide vital insights for detecting oil spills, monitoring illegal maritime activities, and ensuring safer seas. 🚀 On 4 November 2025 (10:03 p.m. CET), Sentinel-1D will lift off aboard Ariane 6 from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, expanding Europe’s world-leading radar #EarthObservation constellation. Equipped with a Galileo-enabled receiver, Sentinel-1D can navigate independently - even if GPS signals are unavailable - strengthening the autonomy and resilience of #EUSpace. 📦 Fun fact: the #Sentinel1D satellite itself travelled by ship to the launch site, and is now unpacked and (almost) ready for liftoff - check out the photos! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eAD6EjPZ EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme | ARIANESPACE | ESA Earth Observation | EU Environment and Climate | Copernicus Marine Service | Mercator Ocean International | European Commission
