About us

ICT for RAILWAYS is at its 8th edition! CENELEC International Workshop - 8th Edition - Madrid– Spain- 2-3 October 2025 (hosted by Comillas University) This workshop, explains and illustrates how regulations, standardization and research contribute together to the evolution and competitiveness of the railway sector. Scope and rationale: Digitalisation and Sustainability of the Railway System In a present affected on a global scale by environmental, climatic, and sanitary issues, the transport sector needs to actively contribute to the efforts to minimise the impact of human activities, offering safe and sustainable services. Railways serve as an environmentally friendly and sustainable means of transportation, but more needs to be done to keep and improve their performance as the backbone of the mobility system, in accord with the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. Regulations, standardisation, and research will have a big responsibility in driving the evolution of railways towards such ambitious objectives. Following a tradition of success, “ICT For Railways” workshop aims to provide valuable perspectives on the policies, technologies and standards which will guide the evolution of the railway system in the future. Previous editions have been held in Toulouse (2021), Naples (2019) and, under the title “ICT on TRAINS”, in Brussels (2017), Birmingham (2015), Milan (2013) and Prague (2011).
