👀 The European Commission has opened its public consultation and call for evidence on the #DigitalFairnessAct. ➡️ Citizens and stakeholders can send their inputs by 24 October 2025. ➡️ The #protectionofminors is a key and cross-cutting priority within the DFA. The initiative aims to address several critical areas also covered in the draft INI report on the protection of minors, including: #darkpatterns, #addictivedesign, problematic features in computer games and unfair influencer marketing. It aims to strengthen the protection of consumers in general and of minors as consumers in particular in the digital environment and to ensure clearer, simpler rules and a level playing field for traders. I very much hope a lot of stakeholders contribute. The addictive design in the digital sphere is having detrimental effects on the mental health of minors as well as adults. 💡 Team Belgium at the EURAD-2 General Assembly! Ten months after its launch, EURAD-2 - the European Joint Programme on Radioactive Waste Management funded by #EURATOM - held its General Assembly in Bologna. ⚛️ Experts from ONDRAF/NIRAS Belgian Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials, BelV, TRACTEBEL and our very own Waste & Disposal Expert Group at SCK CEN are proud to contribute to this strategic European initiative. The programme is evolving, with a stronger focus on strategic studies and an expanded scope that now includes 🟩 surface disposal and 🟨 predisposal (previously tackled in the EU-Project PREDIS) alongside 🟫 geological disposal - marking a more balanced and forward-looking approach. The sustainability omnibus reached a decisive moment last night. 👇   After months of negotiations, we are now down to two possible paths: 1️⃣A deal between the EPP Group in the European Parliament and the far right that weakens Europe’s sustainability ambitions, and throws the EU Parliament into instability. 2️⃣ A deal at the centre with the UvdL-majority that provides clarity and certainty for businesses and society, while keeping the core of our legislation intact.   The splitting factor? Whether to hold companies liable for their business conduct. A fundamental principle in the EU that should be obvious.   The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament, Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament and Renew Europe have shown readiness to compromise across different elements of the text. But at the heart of the negotiations lies one crucial point: civil liability. Without real accountability, sustainability and human rights rules risk becoming empty promises.   The EPP holds the keys to unlock a solution. Businesses, investors and citizens deserve predictability - not more uncertainty.   It’s time for the EPP to decide: Do we strengthen Europe together, or do we risk instability by looking to the extremes?
