🎙️ Over the past few months, I’ve come across several universities producing fantastic podcast series. But in almost every case, the podcasts are positioned squarely around the institutional brand. The challenge? When you make a podcast about your brand, you mostly reach people who are already aware of it. That can be great for community engagement - but it’s limiting, if your goal is to grow. Inside every institution are areas of deep expertise with their own passionate communities. And these are the audiences many colleges and universities spend good marketing money trying to reach. So the next time your team talks about launching a podcast, don’t just make it about the institution. Consider drilling down into an area of expertise. It may be exactly what’s needed to extend your reach, build credibility, and engage the folks you’re striving so hard already to bring into the fold.
