Sepsis is the most severe complication of infections and a leading cause of preventable deaths and disability in Europe.(1) Each year in Europe, more than 3.4 million individuals develop sepsis. 700,000 do not survive, and an additional one-third of survivors die during the following year. (2) ➡ Sepsis Beyond the Hospital Walls Up to 87% of sepsis cases actually start outside hospitals—in homes, workplaces, or community settings. (3) Sepsis is more than a hospital complication.
