🌍 Wildfires in Europe burn on average 500,000 hectares of land every year and agriculture accounts for nearly 70% of freshwater use. In Cyprus’s ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, Diofantos Hadjimitsis and his EU-supported team are showing how Earth observation can change that. By turning satellite signals into actionable data, they’re helping farmers use less water, authorities react faster to emergencies, and researchers track environmental change with greater precision. One in three EU workers now use AI tools at work. Our data show that over 90% workers in the EU use digital devices and 30% now use AI tools such as chatbots. Data is based on answers from more than 70 000 workers across all 27 EU countries. Key highlights: ➡️37% of workers are monitored for working hours ➡️24% of workers experience data-driven, automated task allocation and evaluation ➡️42% of workers are exposed to at least one form of digital monitoring and one form of algorithmic management 🔗 Dive deeper into the findings: https://lnkd.in/eHJTB2XA

Today Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva and Ministers from the Western Balkans met in Podgorica to advance the region’s integration into the EU’s research and innovation ecosystem. Ministers discussed how research infrastructures and AI in science can boost competitiveness, and how Smart Specialisation Strategies can transform regional economies into innovative ecosystems. Together, we will work on: - Synchronising regional policies with EU frameworks like the Startup and Scale-up Strategy, the European Research Area and the European Innovation Act - Amplifying private sector engagement to finance Research and Innovation - Prioritising investments in skills development to facilitate the Green and Digital Transitions - Advancing Smart Specialisation Strategies to maximize efficiency and impact - Enhancing synergies between industry and academia - Maintaining robust cooperation with EU Member States and enhancing involvement in European programs such as COST and EUREKA Find out more on what we are doing for a resilient and prosperous Europe 👉 link.europa.eu/qtVJyT
In Podgorica today, I met with Ministers from the Western Balkans to deepen our partnership in research and innovation. We endorsed a set of recommendations to align the region’s policies with key EU initiatives - the Startup and Scaleup Strategy, the European Research Area Act and the European Innovation Act. Our discussions focused on: • Boosting research infrastructures and the use of AI in science. • Supporting startups and innovation ecosystems. • Developing skills and stronger links between academia and industry. • Mobilising funding to drive competitiveness and reduce the innovation gap. The Western Balkans Growth Plan, along with greater participation in programmes like COST and Eureka, will play an important role in supporting this goal. A strong and innovative Western Balkans is in everyone’s interest, for Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and shared future. https://lnkd.in/dRqqhWQi

💧 Only 10 days left to reply to our survey for the European Water Academy! We're looking for insights and expressions of interest from water-related organisations across Europe to help shape the European Water Academy (EUWA). As a key element of the European Water Resilience Strategy, the Academy will offer advanced training, support innovation and strengthen collaboration between scientists, water sector experts, academic institutions and key industries. Water is not just a resource, it’s a vital element of life that touches every part of our society, environment and economy. As Europe faces growing pressure on its water resources, the EUWA will build the knowledge, skills, and expertise to ensure a water-resilient continent. Help us shape this initiative, have your say by 31 October https://lnkd.in/ejzT6Ukc European Water Association (EWA), Aqua Publica Europea, EurEau, Water Europe, IAWD - Voice of the Danube

Scientific guidance is essential to slowing down biodiversity loss. Efforts to slow or reverse biodiversity loss are held up by limited access to data. Our new Atlas of African Protected Areas helps address this challenge in Africa. The Atlas shows the latest geospatial data for Africa’s protected and conservation areas. It supports countries and stakeholders with data, spatial planning, and effective area-based conservation measures. Explore the data or download the Atlas here: https://lnkd.in/eGuiWDdx Our research team: Falko Buschke, claudia capitani, Simona Lippi, Cristina Lazaro, Paolo Roggeri,Christine Estreguil, Michele Conti, Luca Battistella, Stephen Peedell
