📯 We are happy to share an important milestone for the #M4PM project: The development of the observation system prototype has now been concluded! ✨ 👨🔬 M4PM is being developed as a research platform for in-orbit studies of #organoids, advancing disease modeling, drug screening, and personalised medicine in #microgravity. 💊 🔬 The chosen camera and optics will allow continuous observation of organoid growth and status across the full volume of the wells. The scientific core of M4PM consists of six arrays of four wells each, with one well per array equipped with a dedicated camera. 🧫 📸 The images below show the ICE Cubes team working on the ground optical bench, alongside an image of a mid-brain organoid (provided courtesy of OrganoTherapeutics), captured using our optical setup. We are excited to see this milestone bring M4PM one step closer to enabling groundbreaking research in microgravity. 🛫 September has kicked off with an intense series of trips, visits, and conferences for our team, and we’re excited to share some highlights of these activities. ✨ 🌐 As part of this busy start to the season, our colleague Miguel J. S. Ferreira traveled to Korea and had the pleasure of visiting the headquarters of MEPSGEN, in Seoul. 🔬 The visit included an insightful tour of their laboratories and engaging discussions on the intersection of human microphysiological systems and #microgravity research. We explored how #automation, miniaturization, and real-time monitoring can support the translation of these technologies from #Earth to #Space, an area of growing relevance for future missions. 🚀 🌌 The ICE Cubes service is grateful for the warm welcome extended to our colleague and looks forward to continuing these exchanges and exploring opportunities for future collaboration. 🚀 Media Set upgrades have successfully reached the International Space Station (ISS)! On the night of Monday Sept. 15th, our Media Set Mk2 was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 aboard Northrop Grumman’s NG-23 to the International Space Station, the next step in expanding the capabilities of our Media Set system in orbit. ⚡️ With these upgrades the system will be enhanced to unlock even greater possibilities, including: 🎥 Advanced Audio/Video Capabilities 📞 Videoconferencing & Private Calls 🛠️ Support & Control of Experiments and Devices 🤖 Edge Computing with AI/ML 📊 Remote Monitoring & Predictive Analytics 💡 Smarter Scene Illumination 🌐 Continuous, Real-Time Ground Interaction Since its first deployment, the Media Set Mk1 has proven itself with close to 100 successful calls during missions with Axiom Space, European Space Agency - ESA, and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, enabling live events with astronauts and audiences on Earth.
