Delighted to see that there was no default in the latest financing cycle of the Amazônia Viva Mechanism - an initiative seed-funded by Good Energies Foundation!
This innovative mechanism, led by Natura in partnership with VERT Capital and Funbio - Fundo Brasileiro para a Biodiversidade, is pioneering a new way of financing socio-biodiversity in #Brazil's #Amazon. It combines two complementary instruments: First, a CRA (Agribusiness Receivables Certificate) that provides accessible credit for cooperatives and associations supplying Amazonian ingredients. Second, an Ecosystem Facilitation Fund that invests in technical assistance, infrastructure, conservation, and regeneration.
Together, these instruments are strengthening over 40 cooperatives and associations across 16 Amazonian territories - directly benefiting more than 10,000 families, supporting sustainable supply chains, and conserving 3 million hectares of rainforest. Importantly, Natura also plays a dual role as both investor and purchaser, ensuring stable demand and fair markets for these communities.
This matters because it demonstrates that traditional communities, when given the right financial structures and technical support, can be reliable partners in building sustainable economies and conserving vital ecosystems. With over R$ 13 million already disbursed in credit and capacity building - and 100% repayment - the model proves itself scalable and replicable.
Now is the time for more venture philanthropies and impact investors to step up. The Amazon - and the world - need mechanisms like this to thrive. As proven by the Amazônia Viva Mechanism, it is possible to merge environmental conservation, financial inclusion, and economic development sustainably - yes, we can! 🙏🏾🌎🌳
