Solar installer PosiGen closed its Montco offices in Plymouth Meeting and Conshohocken, cutting 49 jobs amid financial troubles.

Solar energy company PosiGen has cut 49 jobs in Montgomery County, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company closed its Plymouth Meeting and Conshohocken offices as part of a nationwide wind-down of operations. The layoffs, effective August 24, were disclosed in a filing with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

The New Orleans–based installer launched after Hurricane Katrina with a mission to bring renewable energy to underserved communities. They cited “significant financial difficulties” tied to changes in federal tax credits for solar.

According to Chief Administrative Officer John Truschinger, the company is now seeking financing or a buyer to preserve a fraction of its business. If unsuccessful, the four employees still reporting to the Montco facilities will also lose their jobs.

At its peak, PosiGen saw rapid growth but struggled with liquidity issues, relying on outside investment to sustain operations.

In January, the company secured $200 million from Brookfield Asset Management, part of a $600 million investment since 2023. Despite this, PosiGen says the broader solar sector is facing mounting headwinds in today’s economic environment.

The closures hit home in Montgomery County, where PosiGen had served local households and urban neighborhoods across the region with affordable solar leasing programs.
