Inspiring artistic minds and connecting a community
About us
For almost 50 years, the OIAF’s vision has been to inspire minds and connect a community. In order to carry out this vision, the Festival's work is broken into 3 streams: Industry, Artistic, and Youth programming. Industry: TAC is a 3-day industry forum, bringing together over 350 influential content creators and buyers. Heavily focused on networking, the event hosts panels, keynotes, and pitching opportunities with a goal to foster the growth of the animation industry. Geared at emerging talent and fans, Animation Exposé features high profile talks, and an interactive pavilion. Additionally at Animation Exposé, the OIAF Career Fair is one of the top places to recruit and get hired. An ideal platform to find hot talent, and establish a strong presence in the industry, the Career Fair is one of the OIAF’s highlights. Animation Exposé event attracted 6,200 attendees in 2018. Complementing screenings, the OIAF also features Meet-the-Filmmakers sessions, masterclasses and other talks geared at professional independent filmmaking. Screenings: Renowned for its programming, approximately 100 films are chosen for competition from over 2,200 entries and curated into programs, they include independent shorts/feature films (narrative/non- narrative), student (Canadian and International), youth (shorts/ series) and commissioned films. Out-of-competition screenings include panoramas (Canadian/International), special curated programs, and retrospectives. Youth: Along with many free outreach programs for youth throughout the year, the OIAF hosts InGenius jr. - a day dedicated entirely to families. INgenius jr. features screenings geared at youth, free hands-on workshops and talks. The OIAF’s locally based kids jury judges competition films and tv series for young audiences, presenting alongside the OIAF’s renowned international jury. Had the pleasure of attending the Ottawa animation festival for the 7th time this year. My favorite animation festival, met some heroes, talented and inspired students, and a ton of other fellow animated filmmakers as always. This year we showcased “Eggland” which I was incredibly surprised and proud to accept the award on behalf of the whole team for “Best Animated Series”. I can’t recommend this festival enough and always have the best time year after year, leaving full of inspiration. Go watch the Eggland pilot if you missed it on Adult Swim’s YouTube page https://lnkd.in/gKqFwSvX

Dainty Productions, Inc. produced an animation that’s screening for the next 5 days at the 49th Ottawa International Animation Festival. It was so much fun to make this with a group of super talented people. It’s playing before every screening during the festival and casting across the Kipnes Lantern on the National Arts Centre, turning the NAC’s transparent LED tower into a giant moving billboard of art. #Animation #FilmFestival #Ottawa #KipnesLantern #DaintyProductions #OIAF2025 #NAC

With the Ottawa International Animation Festival opening tomorrow, we're thrilled to congratulate the three #OCADU community members and emerging animators who have been selected as part of the OIAF this year! Don't miss Peter De Souza-Samanek’s non-narrative "Blindfold", Xinyi/ Sidney Tian’s upbeat "Stride & Shine!" or Mya Van Dyk's short "Monkey Bar." “We're excited that our students' work continues to be recognized on an international stage, a sign that OCAD U’s #ExperimentalAnimation program is making waves in the independent animation scene," said Associate Professor Philippe Blanchard, interim dean of the Faculty of Art.
