Breaking rocks down to bring carbon down. 🪨 Our Technology Development Lead, Amin Shadi, and Process Flow Scientist, Hosein Kalantari, recently geeked out at the INTERNATIONAL MICROWAVE POWER INSTITUTE’s annual symposium. At Arca, we use microwave energy to disrupt the structure of certain minerals, dramatically increasing their reactivity with carbon dioxide. ⚡️ The result? Supercharged minerals that capture and store CO₂ faster than nature ever could. We call this Mineral Activation: one of our patented technologies enabling industrial mineralization. 🌎

Rocking CO₂ to stabilize the climate.
About us
We remove excess CO2 from the atmosphere and transform it into rocks, for gigatonne-scale impact with an ultralight footprint. We believe that to stabilize our climate we need to make big, bold moves and leverage the existing footprints of large-scale industrial operations. That is why we are developing strategic partnerships with global producers of critical materials. Because we leverage mine waste from both active and historical mines and operate within existing industrial sites, our pathway has a light footprint on the environment and local communities.

Arca works hand in hand with the critical minerals industry, using its waste to enable industrial-scale carbon removal. Recently, we visited the Britannia Mine Museum, once one of the largest copper mines in the world. In the 1920s and 30s, it was a marvel of engineering, but it also took a heavy toll on those who worked in it, as well as the nature surrounding it. Today, it reminds us of how far we’ve come and how far we still need to go. The mining industry has become more responsible and sustainable, and together with Arca, it can help remove gigatonnes of carbon dioxide from the air.

I’d like to take a moment to join in the celebrations for the hopefully historic, Advisory Opinion by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). According to the ICJ, governments: ✅are legally bound under customary international law, even those that are not parties to the Paris Agreement, to protect the climate ✅can challenge other governments for failing to meet their climate obligations ✅can be held responsible for failing to regulate corporate emissions within their borders Statistically credible public opinion surveys by major institutions like the UN and Oxford University show that more than 80% of all people on Earth want stronger climate action by governments. (ref in comments) I'm curious about opinion survey results in places that have recently experienced unprecedented storms, floods or fires. Who better than the ordinarily staid re-insurance company Munich Re in their 2025 #natcat review to show the financial cost continues to rise as a result of these events. Thank you to the 27 Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change who started the campaign that led to this ICJ Opinion.
PRESS RELEASE: The #ICJ today delivered its Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change. Carbon Connect connected us. 🌎 Last week, nearly 100 carbon management professionals in BC gathered for Carbon Connect, an afternoon packed with learning, insight and collaboration. 🤝 Our speakers and panelists shared what it would take to turn BC into the “Silicon Valley” for carbon management: ✅ InBC Investment Corp. CEO Jill Earthy highlighted BC’s advantages - a strong innovation ecosystem, a strategic location and abundant natural resources. ✅ The Honorable Jonathan Wilkinson encouraged innovators to seize this opportunity – take risks and start building. ✅ Svante CEO Claude Letourneau, ICD.D called for ambition - large local projects to help build the Canadian market. ✅ Arca CEO Paul Needham spoke to the importance of a strong ecosystem – where investors, innovators and government work together. ✅ CO280 CEO Jonathan Rhone encouraged us to think bigger than Silicon Valley – we already have incredible innovation, capital and talent. BC has all the right ingredients 🧪. Do we have the courage to make something with them? NorthX Climate Tech Deloitte PNW Climate Week #climatechange #climateaction #carbonremoval
