Become a HERO when it comes to incorporating energy-efficiency upgrades in home renovations! On Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the City of St. Catharines is teaming up with Humber Polytechnic to host an upcoming “Home Efficiency Retrofit Orientation” (HERO) webinar aimed to helping homeowners to understand and use best practices in energy conservation to improve home comfort, reduce energy, and save money. The presentation will be delivered online in cooperation with Humber College. A Humber sustainability energy Professor who is also a Natural Resources Canada Certified Energy Advisor, will help participants learn best practices in energy conservation. “Conducting an energy audit and relevant home retrofits or updates can help residents own more resilient homes,” says Olivia Groff, St. Catharines’ Climate Change Adaptation Coordinator. The benefits of these types of energy updates or retrofits translate into some of the goals and actions identified in the City’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan. The plan outlines initiatives that can be undertaken to address the local impacts of climate change from a municipal operations perspective, as well as ways to engage and educate the community. “Extreme cold or hot days can put extra stress on mechanical systems, and performing energy efficiency upgrades allows the house to perform under more optimal conditions, while reducing wasted energy, homeowner costs and in turn, greenhouse gas emissions,” said Groff. “The primary benefits are improved home comfort around the whole house and reduced utility costs by homeowners. The benefits will also translate into the City’s overall Climate Change Adaptation Plan.” The webinar is free to attend. Registration is required and must be done via the City’s website in advance at https://lnkd.in/gpvkZ8NK.
