The World's Most Innovative Movie-Going Experience
About us
IMAX Corporation is an entertainment technology company, specializing in motion-picture technologies and large-format motion-picture presentations. Leading the way in immersive theatre experiences since 1968, a culture of innovation is at the very core of IMAX. From the introduction of stadium seating, to developing the highest-resolution camera in the world, to our laser projection technology and our partnerships with the world’s best filmmakers, there is no one like IMAX. We have more than 1,700 IMAX theatres in more than 80 countries and territories around the globe. We can be found in destination entertainment centers and multiplexes as well as some of the most prestigious educational institutions worldwide. To exceed the needs of our filmmaking partners, our exhibitors and our fans, IMAX is determined to continue pushing movie technology forward. IMAX Corporation is a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: IMAX). Partnering with some of Hollywood’s top filmmakers is a major part of IMAX’s mission. Our various technologies and services extend beyond our cameras and our proprietary DMR process and can be scaled to suit a variety of needs. Leading directors are increasingly asking IMAX to join the moviemaking process from the very start. For a growing number of Hollywood movies, IMAX is part of the film’s DNA. That means, oftentimes, an IMAX movie is conceived as an IMAX movie – with the filmmaker working with IMAX to decide which parts should be shot with an IMAX camera, what kinds of techniques make the most of the IMAX screen, sound and theatre, and how the drama should unfold to take advantage of IMAX’s larger format, richer color, sheer scale and impact.

Last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Nina Trentmann from Bloomberg to give my thoughts on the CPA VS MBA discussion, take a deep dive into my CFO role at IMAX, and give an overview on IMAX’s incredible momentum at the box office, our relationships with filmmakers, studios and streamers, and some of the financial underpinnings that have contributed to this success. Check out the full piece below and look out for the October 15th episode of Bloomberg's Chief Future Officer where IMAX and I will be featured.
It’s an age-old question in corporate finance: What’s the best preparation for a would-be CFO, business school or accounting? Looking at the Fortune 500 and S&P 500 this year, MBAs are in the pole position. The latest edition of Bloomberg’s CFO Briefing zeroes in on the trend. > Driving the numbers is a shift toward so-called strategic CFOs, who spend more time supporting their CEO on the direction of their company, and less on accounting and financial reporting. > Many of the CFOs I spoke with in recent weeks hold an MBA or another type of business degree, sometimes paired with an accounting qualification. But even though they recognize their profession’s growing emphasis on strategy, they still also place a high value on solid accounting know-how. > Asked about hiring, CFOs said that while they consider academic credentials, relevant experience counts more. Cost considerations matter, too, as far as a degree is concerned. With US MBAs regularly charging $100,000 and more a year, some CFOs said the investment might not be worth it. More from the CFOs of IMAX, SGX Group, Victoria’s Secret & Co., Samsara, UiPath and Akamai Technologies here: https://lnkd.in/eRd7QNZz Thank you, Josh Crist, Crist|Kolder Associates, Natasha Fernandes, Daniel Koh, Scott Sekella, Dominic Phillips, Ashim Gupta, Edward McGowan, Nick Roberts, Jane Collins, May Nah Chin, Kelly Soderlund, Kristen Georgette, Maddie Veneziano, and, as always, Beth Williams Liou and Arianna Vedia!
