#SUNCASA’s #NatureBasedSolutions are thriving in #Kigali, #Rwanda. Communities and local partners have worked tirelessly to green their city and restore the Lower #Nyabarongo River catchment. As of September 30, 2025, they’ve achieved remarkable milestones: 🌳 Agroforestry: 272,000 fruit trees planted across 1,344 hectares—exceeding the initial target of 1,200 hectares. 🌱 Buffer zones: 81.5% of the goal achieved, with over 361,000 plants rooted in 322 hectares. 🌿 Urban trees: 108,677 trees planted in new green spaces—27% above the original target. An additional 80,000 trees were also planted in reforestation and afforestation sites. At the recent #IUCNCongress, Philbert TUYISABE from ARCOS Network presented these achievements, showcasing how community-led #NbS are reducing flash floods and landslides, improving food and water security, and enhancing the resilience of 975,000 people in Kigali.

As 2030 approaches, one of the key questions being asked is “what’s next?” On this #UNDay, let's highlight key #SDGs processes reshaping our vision for a more sustainable future—one that considers the needs of both present and future generations. 🤝 🌍 While UN Member States won't officially discuss how sustainable development will be advanced beyond 2030 until September 2027, these conversations are already underway. In this article, our experts Eleonora Bonaccorsi and Lynn Wagner unpack some of the key elements likely to underpin post-2030 discussions. 🛡️ How can Border Carbon Adjustments (BCAs) protect the interests of developing countries? As #BCAs reshape global #trade and #climate policy, a key challenge emerges: How to balance environmental ambition and development equity. For BCAs to be successful, they must be designed to support fair and inclusive development—building trust rather than deepening divides. In a 🆕 IISD Economies’ article, Ieva Baršauskaitė and Antoine Bonnet explore how development considerations can be meaningfully integrated into BCA design and implementation. Key insights include: ♻️ Recycling BCA revenues can help developing countries meet compliance requirements 🤝 BCA-implementing governments can assist developing countries in accelerating their broader decarbonization efforts 💸 BCAs can differentiate credit carbon prices paid by developing countries and offer flexibilities for SMEs The authors emphasize that building compliance capacity is essential to ensure that developing countries’ climate efforts are properly credited. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dbvShTj6 Alice Tipping | Aaron Cosbey

“Our greatest inheritance is not what we leave behind but what we pass on to the next generation.” In this article, Mare de Wit unpacks the meaning of intergenerational fairness, exploring the notion of “debt to the future,” the shift from short-term thinking to long-term doing. As a future generations’ ambassador for water and climate adaptation and building on her initiative “Future at Table,” Mare shares insights on how to foster responsible and sustainable policy development by ensuring that current and future generations’ insights and interests are included and safeguarded. This article is part of a mini-series that explores key concepts, or shifts, of the ongoing Beyonds Challenge Initiative by The Beyond Lab at UN Geneva, an intergenerational call to share what going beyond 2030 means to you in a creative way. Across this series, the four themes of the initiative, constructive hope; regeneration; debt to the future; and the great unknowns, will be unpacked to spark fresh thinking towards 2030 and beyond. 🌎 How can trade deliver for an inclusive low-carbon global economy? The race to decarbonize is on – but not all economies share the same starting line. 🏁 Around the world, governments are striving to secure a place in the low-carbon economy, balancing the urgency of decarbonization with the need to protect jobs and maintain market competitiveness. If you have ideas to share, please submit a session proposal for the #Trade + #Sustainability Hub 2026 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, held alongside the World Trade Organization’s Fourteenth Ministerial Conference #MC14 from March 26-28. As one of three key streams, we’re looking for sessions that answer these questions: ✅ How can trade policy support equitable participation in the low-carbon transition? ✅ What tools are available to governments to protect domestic interests while contributing to global climate goals? Apply before October 31, 2025 to help shape global conversations on trade and sustainability ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eaSKb7Gh You can also submit proposals under the other thematic areas: 🌾 Delivering for agriculture 💻 Delivering digitized industrialization where small business thrives
