Powering Ontario's future.
About us
At Ontario Power Generation (OPG), our power is changing the world as we strive to electrify life in one generation. As the province’s largest clean power generator, OPG operates one of North America’s most diverse generating fleets. We are now advancing several clean energy innovations, including Small Modular Reactors, low-carbon hydrogen, and energy storage, to help set Ontario and the world on the path to an electrified future, where more aspects of life – from cars to homes and industries – are powered by clean electricity. As part of this vision, we’re also focused on becoming a net-zero company by 2040 and enabling a net-zero economy by 2050. We have already made major strides to a sustainable future. In 2014, OPG burned its last piece of coal to make electricity, which represented one of the world’s single-largest climate change-specific actions. Today, through the dedication of more than 9,500 employees, OPG generates almost half of the electricity that Ontario’s homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses rely on each day. We are committed to ensuring our energy production is reliable, safe, and environmentally sustainable for Ontarians today and for the future. In Ontario, our diverse fleet includes two nuclear stations, 66 hydroelectric stations, two thermal generating stations, one solar facility, and four combined-cycle gas generating stations, which are operated by our subsidiary, Atura Power. Additionally, we own two other nuclear generating stations in Ontario, which are leased on a long-term basis to Bruce Power L.P. In the United States, OPG owns and operates 85 hydroelectric stations in 18 states through our subsidiary, Eagle Creek Renewable Energy. Some of the actions OPG is taking now to prepare for our electric future include the ongoing refurbishment and upgrades of our hydro fleet, refurbishment of our Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, which will secure 30 more years of clean, reliable, low-cost power.

⛏️ Something big is coming this summer to Darlington. Meet Harriet, a massive tunnel boring machine that will help carve the path for North America’s first commercial SMR, which we are now building with the support of Ontario companies and partners. Named after Canada’s first female nuclear physicist, this major piece of machinery will help our small reactor create big impact for the province. 🌷The long weekend is here and it's the perfect time to enjoy the warmer weather and the beauty of the season! Whether you're planning a picnic, a hike, or just relaxing outdoors, remember to prioritize safety, especially around water. 🌊 With the change of seasons, water levels can fluctuate, creating strong currents and unexpected hazards. Stay aware of your surroundings and keep a safe distance from hydro facilities and dams. For more tips on how to Stay Clear, Stay Safe, visit opg.com/watersafety

Looking forward to participating at the WNA's World Nuclear Supply Chain 2025 event next week. OPG's Jon Franke, SVP of the Darlington New Nuclear Project, will be taking part in a discussion on ramping up the global nuclear supply chain to advance projects. We look forward to sharing how we are mobilizing and supporting Ontario's homegrown supply chain to build North America's first commercial SMR at Darlington!
⚛️ Ahead of our exciting new event next week - World Nuclear Supply Chain 2025, we sat down with Andy Champ, UK Country Director, GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, to speak about the most recent nuclear supply chain developments in GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, as well some of the ways for increasing competitiveness for nuclear power plants around the world. And he had some very interesting things to tell us! Watch the video below 🎥 ⬇️ - - - Nearly 300 delegates from 100+ companies have already registered for WNSC, but you can still do it today: https://lnkd.in/eWnnYCMT ⚛️ #wnsc #wnsc2025

Small reactor, big economic impact! 📈 As we begin constructing North America’s first SMR, this made-in-Ontario project will generate major economic benefits for the province. About 80% of project spending will go to some 80-plus companies across Ontario, creating approximately 18,000 jobs during manufacturing, and spurring growth in our domestic supply chain up to $500 million/year with market expansion. It's the start of big things for Ontario and our clean energy future. Learn more: bit.ly/42QtVl3 #BigThingsStartSmall
