    Co-Founder & CEO @ Spellbook | AI Contract Review

We're thrilled to announce that Spellbook has raised a $50m Series B financing, led by former lawyer Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures. Since 2022, we've grown rapidly to 4,000 law firm and in-house customers, like NestléeBay and Kennedys. Like "Cursor for contracts", we aim to be the best way to draft and review agreements with AI. For our customers, this means we'll be introducing a breadth of new functionality. Our first leap forward: integration of Realtime Market Standards. We want to be the most grounded contract review tool. Lawyers are sick of counterparties sending them "AI slop" redlines filled with non-substantive changes. They want to use AI, but they want to be able to defend their changes with citations to hard data. Already in beta, our new Realtime Market Standard functionality will allow you to compare your agreement to others in the same industry, jurisdiction and deal size bucket. We're also expanding to the full breadth of transactional work with Spellbook Associate, the agent we launched last year, and expanding our support for large enterprises. Keith and the KV team have invested in some of the greatest companies of our time: OpenAI, Airbnb, YouTube, DoorDash—we're glad to have them help guide us through hypergrowth. We're also thrilled to have Threshold VenturesInovia CapitalBling Capital, Moxxie Ventures, Path Ventures and Jean-Michel Lemieux join the round, continuing to shape us. When we first entered legaltech nearly 8 years ago, very few wanted to fund the space because they thought lawyers were too slow to adopt tech. They couldn't have been more wrong. Lawyers were just waiting for the right tech to solve their problems. As Jack Newton from Clio noted: large language models are for lawyers what spreadsheets were to accountants. Thank you to our incredible team, our customers and the ecosystem that has supported us to get here.

  • When Kyle Westaway founded his NYC law firm, he built it on a flat-fee model. It was a choice that forced efficiency and shaped every decision that followed. In the next episode of our New Precedents series, Kyle shares how rethinking processes and embracing the right tools allow him to deliver more value to his startup clients while preserving time for what matters most. “Spellbook was the first product that we saw that we really felt was going to be a game-changer for us on contract review.” — Kyle Westaway

  • Kennedys, in collaboration with Spellbook, is launching a first-of-its-kind training program to prepare junior lawyers for the realities of an AI-powered legal profession. The program will leverage Spellbook’s drafting and review capabilities to create structured training for junior lawyers, combining simulated scenarios, AI-assisted exercises, and feedback from senior colleagues. Pilots will begin in the US and UK, with learnings shared across the profession. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eX_KSAyW

  • Announcing New Precedents: a series highlighting lawyers leading the profession into the age of AI. In our first episode, we learn how leading midsize Canadian firm McInnes Cooper is using AI to unlock creativity, surface blindspots, and open space for strategic high-value work. “More than speeding up my work, I find that it adds another dimension. It helps me think outside of the box.” — Patrick Kahn, Associate, McInnes Cooper More on the series and McInnes Cooper at the link in the comments ➡️

We’re thrilled to officially welcome Caravel Law LLP to the Spellbook partner ecosystem. Caravel has been one of our earliest supporters, testers, and adopters. Their team immediately saw the potential of legal AI and was an early beta-tester of Spellbook. As Caravel puts it: “We are convinced that Spellbook represents the future of contract drafting and review as it augments and enhances lawyers’ efficiency and work output.” We’re proud to partner with a firm that has been at the forefront of legal innovation for the past 20 years.
