We’ve been watching AI Overviews dominate the SERP (and headlines) all year. But we’re now seeing something new emerging… A growing number of AIOs aren’t showing up in position 1. Across our MozCast keyword set, nearly 1 in 7 AIOs now appear below the top organic result, with some even falling to position 6 or lower 🤯 And this pattern holds across devices, locations, and query types. While this isn’t a reversal of AI in search, it is a possible sign of a rebalancing. If you’re a search or content marketer, here’s what it means for you 👇

There’s been so much noise about AIOs eating the SERP that a quieter (and surprising) trend has gone unnoticed: Google is starting to place AIOs lower on the page. In our latest research, we found 14% of all AIOs appear in position 2 or lower, with 6% ranking 4th or below, often even under branded organic results and featured snippets. This goes against the narrative we’re hearing that AIOs always sit at the top, stealing visibility and clicks. So what does this mean for SEOs? Swipe through for our lessons 🧑🏫
