About us
Toronto Research Chemicals, TRC, was founded in 1982 by Dr. David Dime to manufacture and supply researchers in the biomedical fields with specialized complex organic small molecules that were not commercially available. In 1983, the company was incorporated in Ontario as Toronto Research Chemicals Inc. It was initially located at the University of Toronto. As the business expanded, larger facilities were required to accommodate the growth. Today, Toronto Research Chemicals Inc. employs over 450 full-time staff, of which approximately 250 are PhD's and MSc's, operating in 120,000 square feet of facilities. TRC has over 350,000 products offered in our extensive catalogue. Our inventory exceeds 38,000 different compounds for immediate shipment to more than 120 countries. Why Choose Toronto Research Chemicals? - We specialize in providing high-quality bio-chemicals in custom pack sizes to satisfy any quantity required. - We distribute to companies worldwide, usually, providing overnight delivery in North America via Federal Express. - We also offer alternative carrier options to meet worldwide delivery and special import requirements. - We have a dedicated and professional customer service team positioned to ensure customer satisfaction and technical support. *In August of 2019, TRC became a subsidiary of LGC. LGC acquired Toronto Research Chemicals, strengthening our overall presence in the global reference standards market.

🎉Celebrating #WorldStandardsDay with the world’s leading developers of international standards - the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ISO - International Organization for Standardization and International Telecommunication Union. At LGC Standards, we believe in the power of standards to shape a safer, more sustainable world - from advancing trusted science to reducing environmental impact. This year, we’re proud to highlight our new Centre of Excellence in Toronto, built with sustainability in mind. This state-of-the-art facility features: • Heat recovery systems saving 95,500 m³ of gas annually - enough to heat 41 homes. • Closed-loop cooling that reuses waste heat, saving an additional 11,000 m³ of gas each year. • Over 220 low-flow fume hoods reducing HVAC energy use by 33%. • More than 60 energy-efficient freezers, cutting electricity use by up to 30%. Through science, collaboration, and sustainable innovation, we’re helping ensure safer medicines, a cleaner environment, and a shared vision for a better world. 👉 Learn more about our sustainability journey in the latest ESG report: https://ow.ly/kfiW50X7LLE #Standards4SDGs #Sustainability #ScienceForaSaferWorld

#MoleculeMonday: In the 19th century, absinthe - the “Green Fairy” - was the drink of choice for poets, painters, and revolutionaries from Van Gogh to Oscar Wilde. Its hallucinogenic reputation? Blamed on thujone, a compound in wormwood. The fear of thujone led to absinthe being banned in much of Europe and the US for nearly a century. But modern science shows the truth was far less mystical: thujone’s psychoactive effects are negligible. The real culprit? Plain old ethanol – and a lot of it (absinthe often exceeds 70% alcohol by volume)! Today, absinthe is legal again, its mystique intact. But the chemistry tells a different story: sometimes the most ordinary molecule is the most powerful. 🔬 At LGC Standards, we provide a wide range of beverage reference standards, including thujone. PFAS contamination remains one of the most urgent environmental threats - persistent, mobile, and resistant to conventional treatment. Linked to serious health risks, these “forever chemicals” are notoriously difficult to remove from water. Professor Marco Papini’s team at the University of Rome La Sapienza is exploring biochar – a renewable, carbon-rich material made from waste such as pinewood and date seeds. Both materials captured PFAS, especially on long-chain compounds, with pinewood showing an edge thanks to its pore structure and chemistry. To validate results, the research team used LGC Dr. Ehrenstorfer PFAS reference materials – both native and carbon-labelled – for accurate quantitation and trace-level detection. 🧡 Honouring Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Last week, our Toronto colleagues wore orange shirts to mark Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (30 September) - a day to honour the survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home. Wearing an orange shirt has become a powerful symbol of remembrance and awareness, inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose childhood orange shirt was taken away at a residential school. It stands as a reminder of the importance of listening, learning, and supporting reconciliation. Our new Centre of Excellence in Toronto is situated on the Territory and Treaty 13 lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. It also recognises the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee peoples. Acknowledging this land is a meaningful way to show respect for Indigenous history, culture, and the enduring connection to the land. While this day is specific to Canada, its message of reflection, learning, and respect resonates with all of us at LGC. 👏Thank you to our Toronto colleagues for marking this important day and reminding us all of the value of empathy, awareness, and cultural respect. #TruthAndReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay #DiversityAndInclusion
