Interview with Raquel Urtasun, Part 2: 🔷 Now, speaking to people more familiar with the space, what sets Waabi apart in such a competitive field? 🔶 Waabi’s unique approach leverages an end-to-end interpretable and verifiable AI model powered by the industry's most realistic neural simulator. This dramatically reduces the development time and resources needed to bring self-driving vehicles to public roads — safely and at scale. The Waabi Driver is our autonomous virtual driving system, composed of both an AI autonomy stack and hardware (i.e., sensors and embedded compute). The AI model is capable of reasoning, enabling it to generalize to all possible situations on the road, regardless of if the truck has experienced them before. The Waabi Driver's training and validation is enhanced by the use of a virtual environment called Waabi World, our high-fidelity, neural simulator. Simulation enables efficient, comprehensive testing of edge cases and scenarios—making every mile driven more valuable, targeted, and safe. Waabi has an unparalleled advantage through faster time to market and substantially reduced costs. Our product offers superior scalability, supporting much faster geographic expansion and seamless OEM integration across multiple vehicle platforms. It provides higher economic value by enabling direct delivery to customer distribution centers and delivers enhanced safety performance. Finally, this approach has established a foundation that will unlock rapid expansion into a diverse set of Physical AI use cases—from robotaxis and intelligent warehouse systems to advanced humanoid robots. 🔷You’ve recently unveiled a new breakthrough called Mixed Reality Testing (MRT), can you explain that to us? 🔶 Closed-course testing has been a staple of vehicle safety testing for over 100 years, allowing manufacturers to test new models of vehicles in controlled environments. Test tracks require elaborate coordination similar to movie stunt productions, making consistent test reproduction challenging. Additionally, closed courses cannot replicate the complexity and unpredictability of real-world driving conditions, including rare but safety-critical scenarios. Mixed Reality Testing is a revolutionary alternative that transforms what's possible in a closed course. Imagine an autonomous truck fitted out with a pair of highly sophisticated AR goggles that overlay a rich, dynamic virtual world onto the physical environment. MRT combines a real truck and physical environment with synthetic scenarios generated and executed in real-time by Onboard Waabi World. It unlocks unlimited testing possibilities that were previously impossible to achieve safely or practically — traffic jams, accidents on the road, aggressive drivers cutting you off. This breakthrough brings rigorous safety standards to the next level, and is one of the key innovations that has enabled Waabi to be faster and safer. #AI #Innovation #Mobility #Waabi #PorscheSE

Last year, Porsche Automobil Holding SE and its recently launched venture fund Incharge Capital Partners invested in Waabi, a pioneering AI company transforming the future of autonomous trucking. Today, we reflect on the investment and look ahead to the future with Raquel Urtasun, Founder and CEO of Waabi. 🚛✨ 🔷 Raquel, great to speak with you. To start, how would you explain Waabi to someone unfamiliar with the field of autonomous driving? 🔶 Since ChatGPT's breakthrough in 2022, AI has transformed the digital world. Now, the next revolution is unfolding in the physical world—where AI will fundamentally change how we move and interact with our environment. This shift represents one of the most significant technological inflection points of our time. This new frontier necessitates innovative approaches to building AI systems that can generalize to every possible real-world situation, operate with next-level efficiency, and be validated and verified as safe through robust scientific evidence. At Waabi, we’re pioneering Physical AI, starting with autonomous trucking. By solving critical challenges like road safety, driver shortages, vehicle utilization, and fuel consumption, we’re making long-haul trucking more efficient, sustainable, and safe. Ultimately, we're transforming how the world moves goods—enabling everything from medical supplies and food to clothing and machinery to be delivered without a human driver behind the wheel. 🚗💬This concludes Part 1 of the interview. 🎤 Stay tuned for Part 2+3 – coming tomorrow on our Porsche Automobil Holding SE LinkedIn channel. #AI #AutonomousTrucking #Innovation #Mobility #Waabi #PorscheSE
