🚨 Big changes coming to hiring in Ontario – Jan 1, 2026 🚨 Starting next year, new rules under the Working for Workers Five Act (Bill 190) will make job applications more transparent and fair. These updates change the Employment Standards Act, 2000, and they’re a win for both job seekers and HR teams. 🗂️ What’s changing? • Employers with 25+ staff must follow up with interviewed candidates within 45 days • Pay ranges must be posted (max $50K wide, unless salary is $200K+) • Must say if AI is used in the hiring process • Must clarify if the role is an existing vacancy • Keep hiring records for 3 years • No more asking for “Canadian experience” in job postings 📌 What to do now: For Recruiters: • Set up auto-replies to close the loop with candidates • Update job templates with pay ranges and AI disclosures • Keep records organized For Employers: • Review your hiring process for bias • Make sure your team size qualifies (25+) • Train hiring managers on the new rules For Job Seekers: • You should hear back within 45 days—yes or no • If not, feel free to follow up and mention the new law 🛠️ These changes are backed by: • Ontario Regulation 476/24 (Job Posting Rules) • Ontario Regulation 477/24 (New Hire Info Requirements) Let’s make ghosting a thing of the past 👻💼

Hang in there!! Canada's unemployment rate hit a decade high in August (7.1%) but there is good-ish news! 1. 60,000 of the 66,000 jobs lost were Part-Time (we don't like to see anyone lose a job, but stability in full-time is an important step.) 2. The Hays Salary Guide survey was conducted in August and we found 49% of employers are planning to increase headcount over the next 12 months (only 6.7% plan to decrease) 3. Construction growth is back! The sector with the largest gains in August was Construction +17,000. My feeling is we're near our unemployment peak and by 2026 we'll be back in growth mode. Hang in there Canada, we've weathered the worst and in 2026 we will get the reward for our resilience. ✨ Lets talk cold outreach ✨ Cold outreach can feel intimidating! But when it’s done well, it’s one of the quickest ways to stand out and get noticed by recruiters and hiring managers. I loved reading this new blog from Altis Recruitment because it breaks down exactly how to do it in a way that feels confident, clear, and professional (not cringey 🙃). Why does this matter? From my perspective, it’s simple: ✅ Building real connections helps you stay top of mind for future opportunities. ✅ A thoughtful message can shorten your job search since recruiters may reach out before jobs are even posted. ✅ You control how you show up! A polished, intentional outreach shows initiative. Some key takeaways I found most valuable: - Do your prep work: make sure your LinkedIn profile tells your story clearly before you reach out. - Be specific: recruiters get tons of vague messages so clarity about your skills and your “ask” goes a long way. - Pick the right channel: LinkedIn and email both work but what matters most is what you say. - Follow up politely: recruiters are busy, but a kind nudge after a few days is totally okay. - End with gratitude: it’s a small detail that can make your message more memorable. IRCC confirmed that: ·     Such work may be recognized as foreign work experience if all requirements are fulfilled. ·     It does not qualify as Canadian work experience, as the employer and employee are regarded as outside the Canadian labour market. ·     Final evaluations are always case-specific and depend on the documentation submitted.
