OpenAI just confirmed: ChatGPT will take a cut of product sales made inside the app. This is playing out exactly as we expected. OpenAI is building its own AI-native commerce layer — starting with integrated shopping and affiliate commissions inside ChatGPT . 🧠 No more passing users off to someone else’s site. 🛒 No more relying on third-party ad clicks. 💰 Revenue tied to outcomes, not impressions. And here’s the shift that matters most: Search-to-product matching will now be based on relevance, not on who paid the most to show up. This flips the traditional model. In AI-native search, attention isn’t bought — it’s earned through clarity, trust, and contextual fit. It’s a small feature (for now), but a big signal: AI search will monetize relevance, not attention. This challenges Google’s $200B ad model more than any UX shift ever has. Because if answers replace listings — and transactions happen inside the interface — the old rules break. With all the crazy acquisitions last week, we didn’t want to be left out of the party. Excited that Prefab has joined Reforge! AI has created the opportunity to “collapse the stack,” as Scott Belsky has said and enable “full-stack builders” as Tomer Cohen has written about. The result will be not only increased speed from Insight to Launch but, more importantly, better products. Since early this year, Reforge has been on a mission to build this platform: First, with the launch of Reforge Insights, which aggregates, analyzes, and acts on your customer data.
