Because empty hours don’t guarantee presence. Time is the wrapper. Attention is the gift. I learned this over Eid, when I spent four uninterrupted days with my daughter. No calls. No emails. Just her. The joy didn’t come from having the time. It came from where I put my attention. Naval Ravikant said it best: “People say time is the most precious resource. But really, it’s attention.” Most founders keep chasing time, thinking freedom is waiting on the other side. It’s not. If you want to feel free, start here: ✅ Set an “Attention Intention” for each block. Before you start, decide in one line what you want your attention to create. ✅ Run role-days, not task lists. Choose one hat to wear for the day (CEO, Sales Lead, Visionary); say no to everything else. ✅ Use a two-minute pre-block ritual. Silence notifications, close tabs, breathe. Simple = powerful. When you start protecting your attention the way you protect your time, everything changes. Your team feels your presence. Your clients feel your focus. And you finally feel like you’re in your life, not just managing it. Stop chasing time. Start choosing your attention.

The problem with positive thinking In many organizations, there's a strong push for “Positive thinking.” “Let’s stay upbeat.” “Focus on solutions, not problems.” “Let’s not bring in negative energy.” As a coach and psychodrama practitioner, I’ve seen how this approach can backfire. When we pressure ourselves , or others ... to stay positive at all costs, we create a culture of emotional bypassing. We silence the discomfort. We label difficult emotions as “negative.” We value surface calm over authentic expression. Psychodrama teaches us something deeper: that every emotion has a voice, and every part of us - light and shadow - carries truth. We must allow both to be expressed, witnessed, and integrated. This image captures it perfectly: 1. Pink glasses — all is love and light. 2. Black glasses — all is shadow and cynicism. 3. And then — the third eye: the wisdom to see both at once. Leadership is not about fixing the team or pushing them to “think positive.” It’s about holding space for their full range - joy, doubt, resistance, determination... so clarity and choice can emerge from truth, not silence. As a leader, can you stay open to the full range of emotions your team brings - not just the ones that are easy or convenient?
