Alert fatigue. Talent shortages. Expanding attack surfaces. AI-enabled attackers. These are the persistent problems Kash Shaikh, President & CEO of Securonix, addressed in his recent interview with Dark Reading. They are also the same issues pressing on every CISO and security leader today. Kash pointed out that security operations teams are drowning in noise and false positives, while attackers are accelerating their use of commoditized AI tools like ransomware-as-a-service. The disconnect between IT and SOC teams, and even between CIOs and CISOs at the board level, continues to create additional challenges. But AI also represents a real opportunity. As Kash explains: “While there is a lot of hype with AI, at the same time, there is a lot of value AI can provide if done right. For example, AI agents for a product like SIEM can automate the jobs of some of the analysts. So they can reduce the workload, so the analyst, rather than focusing on the noise, false positives, can be much more effective in focusing on high-value breaches that may be happening in the environment.” Kash’s advice for CISOs is clear: • Insist on detailed proof of concepts and real customer references before adopting a solution. • Be explicit about your priorities and objectives so technology aligns with strategy, not marketing. • Ensure the AI tools you bring in are secure themselves, not another risk vector. The strategic shift in cybersecurity is undeniable. Attackers are already wielding AI to attack deeper, hide better, and scale faster.
