We have kicked of the Equitable roadshow, starting in Vancouer yesterday! Edmonton is up today followd by Calgary, Saskatoon and then Winnipeg before the gang finishes out the 6 eastern cities. Three takeaways so far: Takeaway 1: As complexity of benefit plans increase, plan members understand their benefits less and less. GLP1, CBT, NEM, OM, EAP, COB. That’s a lot of acronyms! How are people supposed to value their benefits when they can barley navigate what they have. There are really useful tools in most benefit plans like mental healthcare, Second opinion programs, pharmacogenomics, Cancer navigation and more. But people don’t use them because they don’t know about them or how to access the care. Take away 2: AI is making navigating life more difficult while making completing some work easier. The need to really access and think critically about almost everything put in front of you is draining. Is this real? Has it been fact checked. How do you fact check when the data on the interenet is wrong to begin with. Our mental bandwidth is already being taken up daily by what's for dinner. Now we have to ask is our chicken real or is it tofu dupe? Fraud advancement and fake news (ahem, lies) is outpacing detection and prevention. Take away 3: disp fees have remained pretty much unchanged for the past 10 years. But online pharmacy is targeting specific conditions to do consultation and scripts along with delivery. Like ED, weight-loss, hair loss and other sensitive conditions. But often these drugs are not covered which connects back to point 1. Navigating the plan coverage is difficult for a lot of people and plan member satisfaction is dropping.
