Clinical Evidence: In a study of 285 patients, PSP was compared to procalcitonin (PCT) and the SOFA score. Results showed that PSP performs on par with PCT for diagnosing sepsis, with an especially strong signal when both biomarkers are elevated together. Importantly, higher PSP levels were closely linked to increased severity and poorer outcomes, including mortality and kidney dysfunction. The study found that adding PSP to SOFA scoring significantly improved prognostic accuracy, particularly in predicting the need for kidney replacement therapy.
