Congratulations to Mathieu Groenen for successfully completing his Master's Project with the title "Reproducible And Distributed Heterogeneous Data Landscapes”. In his work, he presented an orchestration architecture for creating and managing complex distributed heterogeneous data landscapes, including the connection of various data sources through stream processing systems, providing a framework for comparing and analyzing different workloads. #HeterogenousData #StreamProcessing Databases and Information Systems Group, University of Basel Departement Mathematik und Informatik | Universität Basel Universität Basel

Info
The main focus of the DBIS group is the development of novel database concepts and their application to large-scale distributed information systems, in particular to Data Management in the Cloud, Multimedia Information Retrieval, and Service-oriented Architectures & Process-based Systems (Workflows). From a technical perspective, this includes aspects of distribution, reliability, scalability, mobility, heterogeneity, dynamic adaptability, and semantics. The results of this work are applied to various fields like Crowdsourcing applications, e-Health or e-Science.

Congratulations to Henrik Lümkemann for successfully completing his Bachelor's thesis with the title "Spatio-Temporal Search in Lifelog Data”. In his work, he extend the multimedia retrieval system vitrivr to better support lifelogging data by focusing on the extraction, storage, and querying of geo-temporal metadata from media files, which was evaluated in a user study. #MultiMediaRetrieval #vitrivr #geodata #spatialdata #temporaldata Databases and Information Systems Group, University of Basel Departement Mathematik und Informatik | Universität Basel Universität Basel

This years group retreat to Gersbach (DE) included various interesting presentations from group members, engaging discussions about ongoing research and upcoming projects. A definite highlight was the visit to the incredible Erdmanns cave, one of the oldest stalactite cave in Germany, where we explored the underground world. #DBIS #ResearchRetreat Databases and Information Systems Group, University of Basel Departement Mathematik und Informatik | Universität Basel University of Basel

🧠✨ From algorithms to artistic spins: Rahel Arnold brings together research and rhythm. 🕶️ As a doctoral student in computer science at the University of Basel Databases and Information Systems Group, University of Basel, she explores how augmented and mixed reality can enhance digital storytelling — for example, by linking real-world objects with multimedia content in real time. 🛼 When she’s not working on the future of XR, Rahel is on wheels: as a roller figure skater, she just defended her Swiss Championship title. Falling? Not a problem — as long as you get back up. 🔬 The «In Focus» series showcases young researchers who are playing an important role in furthering the university’s international reputation. Over the coming weeks, we will profile academics from different fields – a small representative sample of the 3,000+ doctoral students and postdocs at the University of Basel. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eysc83Tp #ComputerScience #AugmentedReality #WomenInTech #XReco #PhDLife #WorkLifeBalance #UniversityOfBasel
