Returnees to Syria — The Challenges and Opportunities It was an honor to moderate this important panel discussion at Development2030 / AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community in #Geneva this week representing the Syrian Development Organization (SDO). The session explored one of the most pressing and complex issues in today’s humanitarian and development landscape: the return of displaced Syrians and how to ensure that these returns are safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable. Together with distinguished panelists including my colleague Ola Faraj who shared valuable insights on-the-ground experiences from access to basic services, housing, and livelihoods to social cohesion and local governance in areas of return. And the main question wasn’t only when return becomes possible, but how to ensure that it supports resilience, inclusivity, and local ownership turning a humanitarian challenge into a development opportunity. Grateful to the AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community and Development2030 teams for creating a platform where these critical conversations can take place, and to all colleagues contributing to shaping a more coherent and humane approach to returns and recovery in Syria. #AidEx2025 #Development2030 #HumanitarianAid #Refugees #Syria #Returnees #Localization #InclusiveDevelopment #Resilience

Helvetas at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community and Development2030 - Day 2 How can #impact #finance support #climate #change initatives? This was the topic of a very interesting panel disucssion attended by Celestine Kroesschell. 🎥She shares her impressions with us! Yesterday, Celestine also took part in a panel discussion on how #social #protection can built safety nets for the future. And who should provide this social protection, the government or the community as a whole? The dialogue with the participants and the audience was very interesting with a varitey of opinions... We can highlight some key points: ✅ Social protection must be led by the #government ✅ The entire #community has also a role to play ✅ Social protection must promote #resilience and #empowerment ✅ Social protection is necessary to improve solidarity, social cohesion and to have a sustainbale and inclusive economy. European - Gulf aid cooperation trending in times of aid disruption. Had the honor to moderate the opening panel on “Resetting the International Development Cooperation System,” of Development2030 at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community in Geneva this week with: - FAISAL ALKAHTANI, Deputy CEO, Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) - Birgit Nevala, Programme Director, Finnpartnership – Finnfund - Evelien Masschelein, Deputy CEO, Enabel It was encouraging to see a growing commitment to deeper cooperation between Gulf and European development partners, with a massive turnout to our session demonstrating the growing interest in the European development community. As the Saudi Fund for Development marks its 50th anniversary, it was noted that the institution—part of the Arab Coordination Group (ACG)—has been partnering with European counterparts since 1982. Evelien highlighted Enabel’s dedication to building coalitions for impact with Gulf partners, while it was acknowledged by the panel that the different working approaches between European and Gulf institutions requires significant efforts to align. All three organizations stressed that private sector engagement lies at the heart of their work and is essential to achieve lasting impact for development. Yet, effective cooperation between the development and private sector remains at times challenging, given their very different institutional cultures. Finally, while localisation is central to each organisation’s mission, putting it into practice continues to be difficult. The current disruption in the aid sector could undermine localisation efforts, rather than turning them into an opportunity for more equitable partnerships. With a special thanks to Andreas Schonning, 安迪 and Phoebe Frewin for their support. #Development2030 #Aidex GlocalShift Foundation Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation

Reflections from Day 1 at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community and Development2030 Geneva — A Day of Impactful Connections and Shared Vision It was a vibrant first day for the eHealth Africa team here at AidEx 2025 in Geneva! Our booth came alive with energy as we engaged with visitors from INGOs, local NGOs, donors, the private sector, and government agencies, all curious to explore how our digital innovations are transforming health systems across Africa. From showcasing our Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) — now in over 40 locations across the continent, to demonstrating our suite of data-driven health solutions, the conversations reaffirmed the growing recognition that technology and collaboration are critical to building resilient public health systems. At eHealth Africa, we’ve always believed that real progress in health begins with partnership. Therefore, every handshake, conversation, and idea exchanged strengthens our shared mission: to improve health outcomes, empower communities, and drive sustainable change across Africa. We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by — including representatives from Office of Development Affairs, Beekee, i+solutions, ZARYS International Group, Terre Innovative Healthcare, DoKaSch Temperature Solutions, Stonex, AMSIS GmbH, CEFE International, Apace Foundation/One Health, Ordre de Malte France, Abbott, HS Health Supply Care, Project FAIR Uni of Edinburgh, XO Neonatal, RTW Shipping & Logistics Ltd, NTT DATA, ACA Humanitarian Humanity Earth, Al Jazeera Media Network, Zhejiang Jingneng Import & Export Co.
